Getting Serious

I sleep a bit late on Tuesday and get up to read the news and markets. At mid-morning I get out for a good session with the weights where I get one extra rep on each exercise. After lifting I clean the exterior of stove and refrigerator as I work down my to-do list. (The interior of the refrigerator needs a light cleaning.) After a shower I cook pasts for the next few days and watch some Netflix.

On Wednesday I'm out the door on the road bicycle at 6:09 am. I ride north on the Los Angeles river trail and cross over the Whittier Narrows dam and head for the El Monte dam. I'm feeling decent, but I find a convenient turn around spot and head back for home. It's a good 65 kilometer ride. After a shower I read the news and markets and grab lunch. The roses are calling, thus on this bright sunny day I start cleaning the grass and weeds at the base of each rosebush. I have twenty rosebushes and I run out of steam with three to finish. I guess those will get clean on Friday. I grab another shower and have slow a evening with some Netflix - trying to finish the F1 series before the actual F1 season starts in Bahrain this weekend.

On Thursday, leap day, I start by reading the news and markets. Near 8:15am I lift weights and get another rep or two for each lift. Then I finish cleaning the roses and grab a shower to start my errands. I make one trip to CVS and the grocery store to pick up necessities. I take a pause, then take another trip to the library, Del Taco (craving that veggie burrito), and Home Depot. I relax a bit, then make my third trip to the prosthodontist and Trader Joe's. Today's visit with the prosthodontist is relatively short because this temporary implant is not giving me any trouble and I'm keeping everything clean. So we'll try the next version of the implant in six weeks or so. Later in the evening I watch some of the Kings' game and almost finish the Netflix F1 series in time for action to start in Bahrain. I'm excited for F1 to start again! And I note that whereas on today I was running all sorts of errands and interacting with people, on Friday I'll be all to myself for cycling and yardwork and FP2 from Bahrain.

Whereas Thursday was productive from an errand standpoint, Friday is productive in other ways. It starts with a ride under dark clouds to the old yacht club and back to home. I'm just cranking along and seem to be at a faster pace than normal. At home, after starting a load of laundry, I begin edging and mowing the lawn. Halfway through the frontyard the mower won't start. IU try to crank it a number of times and then I sweep up the sidewalk while letting the mower cool. And I try again, but it ill not start. I roll the mower to the garage and while thinking about it, I go weedwack the roses. And trim the backyard. Now its time to start the mower again after letting it set. But first I take off the air cleaner and spray carburetor cleaner down the throats. And the mower starts. Thus I finish mowing the front yard and do the entire backyard with the air cleaner off. When I'm finished I put the air cleaner back on and the mower will not start. Thus I have another tak on my list to clean the air filter before the next use. After the lawnmower incident I take a shower and start a second load of laundry. I get a chance to read the news and markets and continue on my little shopping spree. I decided about a week ago that I would see how much money I made on leap day and I would spend it all. Thus after yesterday's market close and into today I've been buying stuff online though I'm not anywhere near the leap day winnings yet. But the vow was to spend it all, since it was an extra day of earnings this year, and I'll do that. FP2 from Bahrain is viewed during lunch and qualifying will be interesting. Later I get in a workout for the abdominals and biceps - again not overworking the lower back. And then I just relax the evening away.

I hear rain coming down on Saturday morning, so I turn off the alarm and sleep for an extra forty minutes. WHen I wake up the rain has subsided and I put on my running clothes. I'm out the door at 7 am for a 75 minute run/walk. It's dry until the last twenty minutes during which the rain comes down pretty hard. I just keep going along enjoying getting soaked. At home I take a warming shower and do a final load of laundry. Soon it is mid-morning and I'm hungry, so I cook some vegetables and sit down with qualifying for the F1 race in Bahrain. A brand new season - fun times! At mid-afternoon I get out and lift weights. After the first set I say, "I'm tired, I quit". But I don't quit and get through a great workout where I've increased the weights and reps on exercises and I don't have any shoulder pain. But I still ice the shoulders afterwards. But before a shower I take the disassmbled picnic table out of the shipping container and get it ready to coat with polyurethane and assemble in the coming week. Then I get a second shower for today, third if you con't the rain, and have a slightly early dinner. I just relax with Netflix in the evening and finish off a conspiracy theory mini-series.

I'm disappointed on Sunday morning to wake up to rain because that means no cycling. Thus I start the F1 race from Bahrain at 6:30 am. Halfway through the F1 race I see sun shining. Thus I stop the race, put on running kit, and go for a sixty minute run/walk. I don't prefer to run/walk on back to back days, so I cut it a bit shorter. After a shower I go back to Bahrain for the last half of the race and then fill out lunch and the early afternoon with golf and Kings' ice hockey.

I have a great day on Monday. It starts with a mountain bicycle ride to the old yacht club and back to home. I change clothes and add a coat of polyurethane to pieces of the picnic table. I have to do this in stages since I'm space limited for laying pieces out. After a shower I read the news and markets and make some phone calls and buy more stuff for my leap day spending spree. Today I buy new dishes and silverware, which has been on my list for years now, as well as some other things. I'm enjoying this leap day spending spree idea! After lunch I relax a bit before going out to lift weights an do more polyurethane coating. And then I grab dinner and relax for the evening.

Tuesday is another great day. I get out for the loop ride plus extension on the road bicycle and finsh near 65 kilometers. After a shower I buy a set of garage battery/charging shelves from Home Depot, buy some shorts from a Marshall's, and stock up on groceries. At home I open the garage shelving box and see that it has all of the pieces. I then go read the news and markets and grab a light lunch. After lunch I go assemble the garage shelving and put it in the corner near the only electrical outlets/switches in the garage. And then I finish putting on the polyurethane coating on the picnic table. Tomorrow I can assemble the picnic table in the garage while it rains. Later in the afternoon I watch a recorded show, watch the election returns, and then catch a bit of the Kings' game.

Wednesday is also a great day. I start out slowly reading the news and markets - the legs getting a day off from cycling or running - and get in a great session with the weights at mid morning. Each exersice sees an increase in repetitions or weight. After lifting I assemble the polyurethane-coated picnic table inside the garage. It looks very nice and can easily be switched between a picninc table and a sitting bench. This afternoon it is supposed to rain, so I keep the assembled picnic table inside the garae for one more day to make sure the polyurethane has fully hardened. I de-weed the carnations and they are now ready for growth. In the afternoon I stream the film Oppenheimer and enjoy most of it. And the day floats away with the news.

Thursday is another great day. I sleep in a little late since the pavement is wet from overnight rain. Eventually I get out for a mountain bicycle ride to the old yacht club and back to home. It's a good ride and I push over two legs of the ride despite gusty wind. At home I grab a shower and shortly have lunch - watching FP2 for the F1 cars from Saudi Arabia. I tidy things up in the early afternoon and then get in an abdominal and bicep workout before mowing the lawn. The lawn is growing s fast these days with the rain that we've had (and I put fertilizer down). I pack things up into the car for an eWaste recycling event on Saturday and then put the new picnic table out onto the patio. After a shower I watch the news and the Kings' ice hockey game before reading and sleep.

I start Friday getting out the door at 6:03am for a run/walk. Today I feel strong but stop at 75 minutes - not wanting to overdo the legs before tomorrow's long bicycle ride. The warm shower feels good after a chilly run. I read the news and markets and then continue putting together deliveries for tomorrow - one to the recycling center with electronic and chemical waste and one with old dishes and silverware for Salvation Army. (I've collected electronic and chemical watse from the neighbors also to save them a trip.) I watch the FP2 session for F1 in Saudi Arabia with a pasta-filled brunch as laundry gets done. Later I watch a wet FP2 for MotoGP from Qatar and its good to see the new bikes and riders on different teams. The tree trimming people are not coming, so I go lift weights and have another great session. After a shower I grab dinner and watch the news. And later I check out some Netflix shows.

Saturday is another great day as I get out the door for a road bicycle ride at 6:12am - just barely light enough to ride. I go north on the Los Angeles river trail and get up to the El Monte dam feeling strong. I turn back for home and crank along nicely for about eighty kilometers. After a shower I pack a tune sandwich and head down to the electronics and chemical recycling event. Recall the line was ridiculously long in December and they were closed for President's day in January. But today the line is "a usual length" and it only takes fifteen or twenty minutes to get through the line and have my (and my neighbor's) recyclables turned in. On the way back towards home, I drop off my old dishes and silverware at Goodwill, collect cash from the ATM, and re-supply groceries. At home I do the maintenance on the garage door and do some tidying up before sitting down with lunch and the MotoGP/2/3 qualifying sessions from Qatar. I'll make Sunday a four wheel day with F1 and IndyCar races. The rest of the day is fairly slow and I manage to watch parts of two ice hockey games and re-hydrate.

I'm out of bed at 5:35am on Sunday and it is very dark - daylight savings time having started. I gather everything to go cycling and then wait until almost 7am when the sunlight is breaking through. I have a good recovery ride on the mountain bicycle down to the old yacht club and back to home. Before a shower I weedwack the roses as I try and stay on top of them this year. The F1 race is good with a debut driver scoring points as he substitutes for the regular driver who had an emergency appendectomy on Friday night. I do some paperwork and read the news and then watch the IndyCar race and some Netflix.

I start Monday out the door at 6:00am for a run/walk. Today I cut the run a bit short because I have tree trimmers coming. But I get in 62 minutes. AFter a quick shower the tree trimmers are already at my door at 7:30am. One of the tree trimmers remembers doing it last time though it was five years ago. They quickly take care of the two large trees in the backyard and clean everything up in about an hour. After reading the news and markets I watch the Tissot MotoGP sprint race from Qatar. At mid-afternoon I want to get out and lift weights but I have no energy. I watch a Prime documentary about Deep Blue beating Gary Kasparov in chess - specifically because I used to play chess and I read the book twice. AFter watching I have no energy and feel like bagging the lifting weights idea. Except I find myself taking my clothes off to change into lifting clothes and I go have a very good workout. After a quickie second shower I have an early dinner, watch the news, and catch some of the Kings' ice hockey game.
