I start Tuesday with a 12 kilometer run. My mid-back hurts a bit, but this is a knonw T10 problem and I just run through it. After a shower I read the news and markets and do some maintenance on the garage door and trim the roses. After a short break I make the long trip on the the the Ymamaha-YZFR3 up to Cedars Sinai to meed up with my oncologist, onytyroligist, and bone doctor. I can see they are happy with my progress after I tell them about the seven week trip to Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia and I tease them with some questions that they play along with. The bone doctor says he is finsihed with me (nothing persional or unprofessinal) and I have an apppintment with my ontyrologist in September. I rush on home to watch a wild French MotoGP race in the wet, dry, and then wet again. With a shock and suprise winner. Later I run the dishwasher and get it to tun (still only with a one hour wash cycle and standard heat dry) with only one push of the screwdriver on the touchscreen. Maybe I've found its sweet point.
I start Wednesday with a decent, if uneventful, mountain bicycle ride to the old yacht club and back to home. Then I edge, trim, and mow the lawn and clean everything up. After a shower I read the news and markets and relax until I ride the motorcycle down to my prsothodontist who wants to make a trial fit of one last piece before they continue on with the permanent bridge. Back at home I watch some of the ice hockey playoff games and some of the Dodgers' game.
I'm awake before the 5:50am alarm goes off and prepare for a long run/walk. The mid-back soreness is present at the start - what's causing this? The T10 vertebrae like many years ago? Regardless I get in a 15 kilometer run and then trim the roses - bringing new blooms into the house. After a shower I ride the bicycle to the grocery store for some supplies and return home. Today I go around the entire house and sequentially: raise every set of blinds to the very top, wash and dry each and every window, Windex each and every window, let them pause for a while, and finally lower the blinds back down to the standard level. And open some of the windows that I typically keep open to let breezes run through the house. All of the interiors of the windows are clean and next week, after potential rain, I'll get out the ladder and go around the entire house to wash and Windex each and every exteriors. Except that I have a bit of ammonia/water blend left over, so I actually get the exterior of the living room window done (since it is protected from the rain by a porch). It's 11am and now I'm tired. So I read the news and markets, pay a bill, update my computer and phone, and later watch a Dutch coming of age movie from 2022 called "Close". After cooking pasta for lunch (to carboload for a long Friday bicycle ride), I finally write up and send off the coding analysis that I performed for a friend and await suggestions or comments. Later I watch some of the PGA golf and ice playoff hockey and the Dodgers' game.
The minute that I wake up I am skeptical that I will get in a long ride today. Perhaps a shortened ride. Regardless I get on the bicycle near 6:30am and start north on the Los Angeles river. After a few kilometers the going gets very easy. Thus I continue up to the El Monte dam, the final turnaround point, but I continue on to the Santa Fe dam. And though the headwind down the San Gabriel river trail puts a damper on my choice to continue riding long, I just crank along. And along Del AMo I make two vicious sprints up an extra gear to get through lights before they turn amber or red. It's a super 100 kilometer ride and now I have to figure out a way to end my skepicism before these rides even start. Maybe a longer 120 km or ride would change my mindset. At home a warming shower feels good and I have the bucket and mop inside the kitchen (from the garage) in order to clean hardwood flors and the kitchen floor. But first I go read the news and markets, watch some golf (the second of four major tournaments) and then watch FP2 for F1 from Italy. Craving salt, I cook fish and chips for lunch with the first serving of french fries covered in ketchup, but the last batch drenched in salt. Today I get the dishwasher to run wtihout the scredriver at all - granted I am restricted to a one hour wash and heat dry. But no screwdriver at all! Later I manage to, without inspiration, clean the hardwood floors and kitchen floor before settling in for ice hockey playoffs and the Dodgers' game.
I start Saturday with a very windy mountain bicycle recovery ride. There's a strong wind all along the southern path of the Los Angeles river and east along the ocean. But I get treated to a decent tailwind on these two legs on the way home. With two climbs of the Junipero hill, but I feel strong. I grab a quick shower, ride the bicycle to the store for cravings and supplies, and start the laundry as I read the news. Today I cook vegetables and rice and, for some unknown reason, the ride cooker undercooks the rice - leaving it fairly hard-shelled. I check out the response to my coding writeup and it looks promising. ANd then settle in for some PGA golf, qualifying for both the Indy 500 and F1 race from Italy, and later the ice hockey playoff game and the Dodgers's game. I should point out that when I put my head down and code or relax with some of these sports, I regularly get up and do a series of stretches for my legs and shoulders and upper back just to keep moving, to loosen the muscles and joints up, and head to head off "old age lockup" of joints and flexibility.
I wake up on Sunday and I'm not sure what to do. I put on cycling clothes and just go for another mountain bicycle recovery ride to the old yacht club and back to home. I'm a bit earlier than usual, so I miss most of the 5k, 10k, and 15k runners (who usually abuse the running trail and run on the bicycle lane). Turning north on the Los ANgeles river trail I see a rider up ahead and blow past him on a slight uphill. He tries to stay with me, but I push and on a mountain bicycle blow him away. At home I trim and water the roses since it is supposed to be hot this coming week. AFter a shower I take the bicycle to the store for some supplies and settle back for F1 from Italy, Indy 500 qualifying, the Dodgers' game, the PGA golf tournament, and finally game 7 of an ice hockey playoff game. And, as usual, I get up regularly to perform a series of leg and back/neck stretches as I watch the various events.
I've had the blahs for a few days now and need to snap out of it. I've certainly been getting in cycling and running and lifting weights, but all of my other projects have stalled because our president keeps changing his mind on the budget every twenty minutes and thus non-profits and charities don't know how to use me.
Monday is especially a blah day. But I get out of bed late (because I needed extra sleep) and trim the front junipers. I don't trim the front or tops of the junipers because I want them to lok wild. But I trim the junipers against the house and sprinklers and now I can walk between the junipers and the house without it being an obtacle course. After the trimming I lift weights and have a good session. A shower cools me down on this warming day and I read the news and markets and watch some Netflix documentaries and other stuff on television.
On Tuesday I get out for my typical 70 kilometer road bicycle ride and it feels good to ride again though my legs are a shade tired. Why? They should be rested since I liftwed weights for the upper body yesterday and did not get worked. After a shower I et to the ATM to depositi some settlement check for $22 and buy a bottle of wine. The hedge trimmers come out again and I trim the lower brnaches on the big giant trees in the backyard just to try and stay ahead of them from now on and not have "one big giant trimming session" in the hottest part of the summer. Since I've been sharpening the blades on this one year old hedge trimmer after almost every use, the work is easy. But I should sharpen the blades before I attack a very tall juniper tree in the next week or so. I've trimmed and watered the roses in advance of a hot week and finally et to settle down and read the news and markets and upcoming racing news for a Memorial day Sunday tripleheader - the Indy 500, Grand Prix of Monaco for F1, and Spanish Grand Prix for MotoGP/2/3. I'll have enough streaming videos to keep me busy through most of next week. Later I poke around at some projects and then watch the Dodgers' game and the ice hockey playoff game.
I sleep well on Monday night into Tuesday night despite waking up with abdominal pain and finally making a quick trip to the bathroom. Just after 6 am I am out the door for my typical Wednesday mountain bicycle recovery ride to the old yacht club and back to home - with two climbs up the Junipero hill. At home I pull out the lawnmower and run over the downed branches from yesterday's tree trimming and everything looks clean now, I grab a cooling shower, make a trip to the post office and grocery store, put everything away, and pull out the Dremel tool to sharpen the blades on the hedge trimmers. Whereas with the last I set of hedge trimmers that I bought many years ago I never sharpened the blades, now I am sharpening the blades after every trimming or every other trimming. It takes ten minutes or so to do, but the hedge trimmers will now cut much better until, in the future, it is time to replace the cutting blade. Inside the house on this hot day I work on additions to the coding for my friend and complete them. I still have questions and doubts about the Frequencies of Fourier series coefficients, but I write up what I've done (with the caveats) and I'll rely to my friend to decide what is important or not. I've computed Fourier Transforms, Fourier series, and Power Spectral Densities and we'll discuss what seems most appropriate. I've told my friend that we should wrap some reinforcement learning artificial intelligence around the analyses that we've performed and so I have to work on that last part. I have rice and vegetables for lunch and think about dinner in advance of an intended long run on Thursday morning. And later I watch the Dodgers' game and the ice hockey playoff game.
I'm out the door near 6:15am for a good long run of almost 20 kilometers. I feel good throughout and when I feel a twinge in a calf or hamstring or other body part I change over to the other side of the street where the crown is opposite. Though I prefer to run opposing traffic so that I can see what is coming at me. As opposed to cycling where you always ride on the right side of the road along with traffic. (Unless you are in Thailand, for example, where driving on the left hand side of the road is the law for everyone.) When I get home I pull out the ladder and bucket, take the screens off half of the windows and make sure those windows are fully closed, and wash them. I spray them with the hose, wash them with a sponge full of water and ammonia, dry them, spray on some Windex, and then wipe that off. I'll finish off the other half of the windows on Friday or Saturday. After a shower I read the news and markets and work on my friend's coding problem to understand how random noise affects the results and it is something to add to his understanding. The day passes with rest and stretching after today's long ride and making a big pot of pasta to carboload for tomorrow's bicycle ride and to have around for a few days. And later there is the ice hockey playoff game to watch.
On Friday I have a great day - starting the road bicycle ride at 6:15am or so and thinking, maybe, I'll cut this one short. But I get cranking along and feel good so I get all of the way up to the Santa Fe dam and start back for home against a little headwind. In the distance I see another rider and at my typical speed I'm catching him but very slowly. Very slowly. At the risk of blowing myslef up, I change up a gear and start cranking and catch him within a kilometer or so and tell him, "Come on with me" - hoping he will grab my rear wheel and we can trade off towing between us. But at this speed, by the time that I reach the dam, I cannot see him. Down the San Gabriel river trail there is still that little headwind but I'm feeling great so I bump it up a gear on a few occassions and get some rapid surges in. Along Del Amo towards home I sprint again like a maniac to make green lights (or maybe amber) and finsh with a super ride. I grab a quick shower and take the motorcycle for a ride to CVS and then back to home I read the news and markets. Before noon I have FP2 for Fornula One cars from Monaco playing on my streaming service. I take a break to trim the roses (which I didn't do yesterday as per my typical schedule) and then settle in for FP2 for both MotoGP and Moto2 from England. I take some extra time today to moisturize dry skin parts, condition my hair by applying conditioner after the hair is dry and letting iy stay there all day, and apply extra antibacterial creme to a couple of wounds and cover them. Later in the day there is a Dodgers' game to keep track of as well as another ice hockey playoff game. Say what you will, but among the stick and ball and puck sports, there is nothing like the intensity of an ice hockey playoff game (compared to typical regular season games).
I start Saturday with an early mountain bicycle recovery ride because I wake up well before the alarm goes off. I have a god ride and push at times and climb the Junipero hill twice. Wasn't this supposed to be a recovery ride from yesterday's fast 100 kilometers? At home I wash the last six windows and also wash the garage window. I grab a shower and pick up heavy groceries via car and admire how bright and shiny and clean the windows look. At home I put eveyrthing away and start the laundry, cook more vegetables, and watch F1 qualifying from Monaco. I take a break to deal with CSULA email and other email and then watch MotoGP/2/3 qualfying from England. I believe that I've figured out the hack around the defective (or worn out) dishwasher touchpad as I get it to run with a single screwdriver push again. (Though I am restricted to a one hour wash and one hour heat dry cycle.) Later, as I continue to regularly get up and perform stretching exercises for my legs, I catch some of the Dodgers' game and the ice hockey playoff game.
Sunday starts with an intended shorter run after Thursday's long run, Friday's long bicycle ride, and Saturday's recovery ride. I trim some side bushes impinging on my driveway, trim the roses, grab a shower and run some errands. I return a library book and stop in at CVS for supplies on the motorcycle. I'm excited about all of the racing and am disappointed when a couple of drops of rain delay start of the Indy 500. I take the paralellel time to watch a most exciting Moto2 race from England where there has already been rain and still a nasty wind. What a difference in racing series. After the Moto2 race is finished the Indy 500 is going and there are quite a few bizarre crashes and accidents which are each seen about once every twenty years - such as brake fires and refueling fires and warmup crashes. Forutnaely it looks like everybody is safe an unhurt from the chaos. AFter the Indy 500 I watch some of the DOdgers' game and some of the ice hockey playoff game. I've gone entirely around the house after cleaning the windows last week and notice that the window sills needs some paint because they get beat up by the sun's rays each year. Thus this gets put on my list of things to do as as I try to take care of the little things in the house (which could become big things) before I leave for a while.
Memorial Day is a slow day for me. I just do the mountain bicycle recovery ride to the old yacht club and back to home with two good climbs of the Junipero hill. AT home I adjust the brakes on the mountain bicycles as the levels had become "long". After a shower I ride the bicycle to the grocery store and when I get home I notice that the rear wheel is rubbing against the brakes a bit - probably because the rear wheel is out of true. So I readjust the rear brakes and it appears that they are not rubbing though the brake lever is a bit "longer" than I prefer. I watch a weird F1 race from Monte Carlo where the FIA has dicated that each car has two make two pitstops and use all three of the tire compounds during the race. Granted Monte Carlo is a very strange and antiquated circuit, but I don't like the artificial rules being put into play. I read the news though today is a quiet day despite Saturday's big mass "tagging event" of Los Angeles Metro train, streetlights, and police cars in the south central region of Los Angeles. Later I watch some of the Dodgers' game and the ice hockey playoff gam and have pizza for both lunch and dinner. It's been quite a while since I had pizza. And I do a regular series of stretching out the legs and upper back throughout the day.
