New Beginning

I have a very slow Thursday. I'm out of bed and working on a websire first thing in the morning and reading the news and markets. At mid morning I get in a decent workout with the weights, trim the roses, and grab a quiak shower. I go visit the retired schoolteacher who had a Medicare questions and I just say, "If you want to keep your current doctors, then you have to keep your same Medicare (Dis)Advantage plan". I have to repeat this at least twice. And I have to repeat that I am leaving the country near Thanksgiving three times during our 40 minute conversation. Later I watch some Netflix and the news and relax for a long road bicycle ride on Friday.

On Friday morning it is very foggy and dark at 6:20am and I don't have the bicycle light that I ordered from Amazon a long time ago. But I start out riding very cautiously north on the Los Angeles river trail. Soon the sun comes up and there is light, but there is still fog. But I start speeding up after taking the first few kilometers very slowly. At Florence there is no fog and I start cranking along nicely past the El Monte airport and near the Santa Fe dam. And then I start south for home along the San Gabriel trail with no fog. I'm passing lots of riders until a group of three riders tag unto my rear wheel and we crank along south to Rosecrans. At Rosecrans there is some construction so I have to slow down and the fog has returned. I just keep moving along and wish them a good ride when I exit at Del Amo to go home for a 90 kilometer ride. I trim the roses and wipe down the bicycle , which is wet from the fog, and then get it nice warming shower. I trim some roses, return a book to the library, get a new book, and do some grocery shopping. I'm a shade tired from today's activities but I feel good. I watch MotoGp and Moto2 FP2 sessions from Thailand and then waste time with an F1 FP2 session from Mexico City where the tire supplier mandates certain rules and the resulting times don't really mean anything. Later I watch the Dodgers play in their first World Series game

Saturday starts out as foggy as Friday with slick roads, so I don't go cycling. Instead I get in a 75 minute run/walk. At home I grab a nice, warming shower, meditate, and take a trip to the grocery store for supplies. At home I use the razor blade to clean the soap scum off the my glass shower doors and just need to wipe them down. But I read the news first and then watching MotoGP/3/2 qualifying from Buriram, Thailand. Someday I will brave the heat of this time of year to get to the Thai MotoGP/2/3 races. Later I watch some college football games. Why? I don't know. But then I wipe down the glass shower doors, watch qualifying for F1 in Mexico (Someday I will order early and get tickets to the Mexican Grand Prix), and then watch some of the Dodgers' game.

It's very foggy on Sunday morning, so I hang out and wait for the sun to come up and hope for some burnoff of the fog. But I still get out cycling in the fog before 7am and before sunrise. This is a weird fog patch since it clears up as I approach the aquarium and ocean and then fogs back up along the ocean. On the way back home the fog clears before the Schumacher bridge and I enjoy a sunny, sweaty ride home. At home I trim the roses, wipe down the bicycle since it is wet and has picked up sand, grab a shower, wipe down the shower doors, ride the motorcycle to CVS for some supplies, and read the news. From there I watch Saturday's F1 qualifying from Mexico City and the MotoGP Tissot Sprint race from Buriram, Thailand. And then I just become a vegetable in front of football games which mean nothing to me. I'm contacted by a friend and I agree to help her with her pre-calculus homework on Monday (just functions and stuff, but no trigonometry or derivatives or integrals). And then I become a vegetable again with some football games. I'm making a list of things to work on while I'm away on vacation near Thanksgiving, but there is no hurry to work on them now.

Monday is not foggy, so I start out riding in the dark near 6:30 am. (It turns out my bicycle light from Amazon arrives later today.) I have a good ride and I'm surprised that the time is much faster than usual for the same length of ride. I pull out the garden equipment and trim, mow the lawns, and sweep up afterwards. I get in a warms hower and ride the bicycle to the grocery store for wine - since there is a Dodgers' game later tonight. After reading the news and markets I watch an exciting but disappointing F1 race from Mexico City and then have a Zoom call with a friend who needs help with some pre-calculus homework. I've prepared an Excel workbook ahead of time that we talk about and this helps her understand her pre-calculus work. Today is a good day because my Vietnam eVisa arrives and I print three copies of it and get ready to find a flight to Hanoi. (Why three copies? Because I've read that immigration may confiscate one copy and say that it is not correct. So I'll be able to pull out a seond copy - without handing it over - and demanding that they let me into the country. And a third copy in case the hotel or bicycle rental place requires me to relinquish my passport and I'll be able to to justify my entry into the country.) In the afternoon I watch the Moto3 race from Thailand and then the Dodgers' game.

I start Tuesday in the chilly dark weather walking to the grocery store for some supplies. At home I work on making the Long Beach Human Trafficking Task Force's (LBHTTF) databases consistent. At mid-morning I get out and lift weights and some lifts are up in repetetitions buts the shoulder exercises are down. I then trim the roses and take a warming shower - since the mornings have turned cooler now - and then watch a fun Moto2 race from Thailand where it has rained before the race, all of the riders choose dry tires, and the race runs until 20 of 22 laps are completed when the rain comes down again. I take some time to consolidate all of my bicycle supplies - tubes, CO2 cartridges, pumps, and lights - into one spot and into a small box in my bedroom. The messier supplies suuch as lubricants, grease, and locks, remain in the garage. Later I continue work on the LBHTTF databases and prcoesses to make them consistent. I've received my eVisa from Vietnam so I pick out a flight and I'm ready go. Sort of. I have a one way flight to hanoi but nothing else - no return flight, no side trips to Thailand, no side trips to Cambodia. But I'll figure it out as I go along. (This used to drive Northrop Grumman crazy cuz they'd say, "You have a flight to Bangkok and three nights of hotels but you don't return for three weeks. Where will you be?" and my response of "I'dont know and I'll just go where the winds blow" would drive the Northrop Grumman travel and security people crazy. Absoulutely crazy.) Later I work more to make the LBHTTF databases consistent and then I watch the MotoGP race from Thailand and the Dodger's game as they attempt to sweep their opponents and win the World Series.

During the Dodgers' game on Tuesday I walk outside to put some stuff in the trash and fall. I scrape up my forhead and eye fairly badly. I immediately start icing it. I send the picture off the my neighbors about their doggie attacking me and soon they are over at my house insisting that they call 911. We talk for a lng time and I see that I am going to lose this argument, so I relent and soon an ambulance is at my house. They ask me the standard questions about dizziness, los of consciousness, incoherent behavior, inability to balance or walk and soon they are packing up to go home. That's the first time that 911 has been called to my house and a couple of other neighbors text me and ask if I am okay. I keep icing everything until it is time to go read and go to sleep. With some neosporin added in for antibacterial purposes.

After last night's trauma, I've reset the alarm to sleep in a bit. But by putting gauze on my head woulds nd loosening my bicycle helmet, I'm able to get in the mountain bicycle recovery ride to the old yacht club and back to home. After a shower I start coding to make the Python backend compatible with the new database structure. I just keep coding away, stoping for vegetable soup and bread for lunch. And then code some more until the process is finished. I certainly have to do a bit of code cleanup like getting rid of the older commented out code bits, but its done. And I have a great template to work on the las few processes with the same logic and structure but with different databases. I watch some of the Dodgers' game as they try to clinch the World Series. They're losing 5-0 and score 5 runs in the fifth inning to tie the game up. And then I'm tired so I put more ice on my head and watch a bit more but get down for reading and sleep very early. But I'm woken u by fireworks and firecrackers and I know the Dodgers' have somehow won this game after being behing 5-0 and 6-5.

I turn off the alarm on Thursday and sleep very late - 6:55am. My blood pressure and body temperaure are normal, so I'm assuming that with ice and bacatracin there will be no effects from my recent face plant onto the driveway. I originally layed out my cycling gear last night to go ride, but I just go for a brisk 70 minute walk. At home I've decided on a rose cull - removing the rose bushes that don't really thrive and never (or rarely) produce any blooms. I don't know why. I take out the hedge trimmers and cut off everything from eight (of my twenty) rose bushes and will spend the next few weeks digging and axing away at the roots. Recall that I did this to one rose bush a few months ago. I take a nice warming shower and get to the grocery store for supplies. At home I work on the websites that I have to update monthly for their upcoming schedules and I also clean up the LBHTTF code that I've been working on for a month or so. I feel good today and spend some time layng out the tasks that I should get done before I go away for a long vacation at the end of the month. And I watch a bit of Netflix.

I start Friday in the dark with new lights on the bicycle and ready to go. Except that when I pump up the rear of the road bicycle tire, the core of the Presta valve flighs out. I quickly pick up the pieces and change bicycles for a very cold mountain bicycle ride to the old yacht club and back to home. After yeaterday's day off of working the legs, I feel strong. I grab a shower, get to the grocery store for supplies, and do some research on Presta valve cores. It seems like I can screw it back in and things will be fine. Thus I add some superglue, screw in the core, and let it set for about two hours. In the meantime, I read the news and markets and watch FP2 for the MotoGP and Moto2 races from Malaysia (which I attended a numer of years ago). I start setting up my list of things to be done before my trip, during my trip, and when I retrun home. I also watch the FP2 session for F1 from Brasil. And then just relax.

I start Saturday on a road bicycle ride up the Los Angeles river with the repaired Presta valve core. I keep imagining a flat tire throughout the ride, but I crank along nicely and finish at 90 kilometers. AFter a shower I run errands to CVS pharamcy and the library and read the news. I take a few minutes to set all of the non-automatic clocks back to Daylist Stndard Time and then watch MotoGP/3/2 qualifying from Malaysia. Later I watch some college football which has nothing to do with me and then I watch the F1 sprint race from Brasil. And note that ;ater in the daythere is some drizzle and I wonder if I can get out cycling on Sunday mroning.

I hear a little rain and the pavement is wet on Sunday, so I strap on the running shoes and get in a 16 kilometer run. I trim the roses and cleana few things up and get in a nice warming shower. The Tissot sprint race from Malaysia is a shocker and then I go off to a human trafficking event at a nearby church. It turns out its mostly an ask for money to prevetn/stop the human trafficking of Native American Indians in New Mexico - who are trafficked at four times the rate of other populations. I can't help everyone one, but I listen and talk with some people and go home to watch a wet F1 qualyfing from Brasil. And then just veg out with some football.

I'm out of control on Monday morning. I'm out of bed at 5:30am and out the door for cycling by 5:45am. Today it is cold and I take the mountain bicycle (with lights) down to the old yacht club and back to home. I jump in the shower as quick as I can to warm up. Afterwards I cut up vegetables for a soup, get to the grocery stre for supplies, read the news and markets, and then work on the LBHTTF website. The process for suviviors works great now. I get it transferred over to a resource provision process for parents and guardians. It's probably a couple more hours to finalize the two processes whereby resource providers can be listed on our site and where generic citizens can be listed as volunteers. (And now Google has deprecated the old map markers and I'm having a hard time to get enough different colors on map markers.) I take a break to watch the F1 race from Brasil. It's a wils race as it is raining at the start and somebody goes off on the warmup lap and somebody cannot start the race because the team, a poorer team, does not have all of the spare parts nedded. The race starts but with the crash, its unclear how to restart. After a while, we get the race started with rain falling. And then stopping. And then starting. And then then stopping. My favorite driver starts 17th and wins the race! And a surprise podium for TWO Apine drivers makes an extra $50 million payment to the Alpine team at the end of the season. How could you not LOVE Formula One?
