On Tuesday I get out for the extended loop rode of 65 kilometers. I run into the Saint John Bosco cross country team and the coaches and we chat a bit. These are the coaches that I've chatted with before and sent them an email a while back and they acknowledge that they got the email. As I continue on my ride, I yell to the runners running in a pack, "There are 2028 and 2032 Olympic medals with your name on them. So keep running hard!". At home I trim the roses, grab a shower, read the news and markets, and visit the prosthodontist on my motorcycle. He agress that this temporary brdige looks good and he can see no areas of distress. He's ready to build my permanant set if I get one final concurrence from the maxillo-facial surgeon. I explain to the prosthodontist that I am going to be away in all of December and January, so my permanent bridge will have to wait until after that. We construct a plan and its a good plan. I ride on home, organize items in the garage, and then watch a rather processional F1 race from Singapore and a bit of the Dodgers' game. I did not watch the end, but the Dodgers' had the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the ninth inning - the winning run on first base - when the next hitter hits into a triple play to end the game.
On Wednesday I'm out of bed at 5:40am to read the news and then ride the motorcycle to the radiation doctor's office. The MRI from last week looks good and the doctor is happy with my progress. I rush on home and switch to the World Rally Car. I take my old brakes to the auto parts store and ask them what condition they are in. They say there is plenty of brake pad material on all eight disk brake pads and we both agree that the Subaru dealer, stating that the rear pads only had 30% of the pads left, were just trying to make some money. This is the first strike against this Subaru dealer after dealing with them for twenty years. I also ask how to dispose of the pads properly and they say that the pads probably just have to go into regualr trash - they probably cannot be recycled. But, most important, is that my brake squeal is completely gone. I then go to the ATM and then the grocery store. As I'm checking out they bring a case of bottled water and give to me for free though I can't quite understand why. At home I lift weights and then trim the neighbors sidebush that is infringing on my driveway. After a shower I relax - it has been a productive day thus far - and watch the Moto3 and Moto2 races.
Thursday stats early with a mountain bicycle ride to the old yacht club and back to home. I intended to ride long on the road bicycle, but I'm not feeling it today. At home I mow the lawn and grab a shower and meditate and ride the bicycle to the grocery store for supplies for my upcoming visitor. I finally sit down and read the news and markets and watch an exciting MotoGP race from this past Sunday in Misano, Italy. Afterwards I synch up my desktop and laptop because I hope to be traveling soon. And then I revew the Moto3 and Moto2 races in case my visitor wants to watch them. It has been a productive day and I sit back and relax for a while as I prepare for Friday's meeting at CSULA.
I start Friday with a 65 minute run/walk and a shower. I read the news and markets and grab a muffin - one of the few time I eat breakfast anymore - and eventually ride the motorcycle to CSULA for an Inductry Advistory Board meeting. It's great to see the faculty and staff that I have not seen for a while as a result of my surgery and follow-up treatment. And to a few I show the missing fibula scar which runs from the base of my knee all of the way fown to the ankle. We have the board meeting and concentrate on the upcomng ABET accreditation for CSULA scheduled in the middle of October. And we also talk about the declining enrollment in mechanical engineering, in particular, and what we can do about it. Afterwards I rush on home and await a phone call regarding Person Ha_KY's location as he has changed his plans to get back home a day early (but will stay with me for a couple of days first).
We get out for a bicycle ride in the morning on Saturday and enjoy a good ride. After getting cleaned up we drive around looking for a good burger joint and, after finding two out of business, at up at Habit Burger. Later we watch some college football not that either one of us is that much into it. For dinner we drive down to Second Street and have dinner at Nick's as we watch more college football (with one game being very exciting as each team dominates a half). We think about going out to a xlub, but end up going home and watching a movie until midnight.
On Sunday I take Person Ha_KY back to the airport and then stop in for supplies at the grocery store. At home I lift weights and all of the repetitions are up - probably because I lifted on Wednesday and did not let a week lapse between lifting sessions. Afterwards I trim the roses and climb up on a ladder and use my long pole saw to saw a neighbor's tree branch down that is beginning to dropp unto the roof of my garage. The tree branch falls into the neighbor's yard as opposed to my planned falling on the garage roof where I could dispose of it. After a shower I take a tumble at home while the freshly laundered sheets in the guest bedroom are being put back on. I fall on the corner of the bed with my left rib/chest and now the ribs are is sore. Later I layout my October schedule, watch MotoGP/2/3 qualifying from Indonesia, tidy around the house, and watch some of the football games. Take Ha_KY to airport, lift weights, trim roses, branch over garage, shower, fall while doing laundry and making up the guest bedroom, layout October schedule, Indonesia qual, football, tidy around the house, consolidate hand-written notes to digital and print where feel required.
I start Monday a bit late because it is very foggy. I ride the mountain bicycle down to the old yacht club and it is drizzly down by the ocean. At home I get in a nice warming shower and later finally I get to see MY Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football.
Tuesday starts with a 74 minute run/walk during which I feel good. THis is followed up by cleaning the hardwood floors because I spilled a ton of Coca Cola the other day and it didn't want to wipe off. Halfway through the cleaning I take a shower, meditate, and ride the motorcycle down to the main public library in Long Beach to return two books and pick up four new ones. Back at home I finish off cleaning the hardwod floors and have lunch with the MotoGP Tissot sprint race and the Moto3 race from Indonesia. I spend some time converting hand-written notes to digital for (for convenience later) and then watch the vice president's debate.
Wednesday is a bit of a slow day. I get in 65 kilometers on the road bicycle ride and then wipe it down at home afterwards because the beach was very foggy and drizzly and the bike has picked up a lot of sand. After a shower I read the news and markets and eventually, throughout the day, I watch both the Moto2 and MotoGP races from Indonesia and some of the baseball playoffs.
I wait a bit on Thursday to let the light vome up before going out for a mountain bicycle ride to the old yacht club and back to home. Today is extra foggy and drizzly along the ocean trail and so I get out the garden hose and environmentally-friendly cleaner and spray the bike down. Later, after I've toweled it off, I lubricate the chain and run it through the gears to make sure it is ready for a future ride. After a shower I read the news and markets and greet Person M_Fl who will stay with me for a couple of days during a funeral and visiting his family and friends who live down here. We go to Del Taco for lunch and then go to CVS and Marshall's to buy various supplies. I find a pure black long sleeve shirt in medium and try it on - it fits perfecty. Really? From the old guy who used to wear extra large? Person M_Fl takes a nap and I catch up on baseball and then Person M_Fl goes to have dinner with an aunt (and maybe get in a workout if dinner is short).
On Friday I'm up early to pay bills and read the news and markets. I lift weights, grab a shower, and take Person M_Fl out for breakfast. I then go see the eye doctor and my eyesight is back to normal - the last appointment they were off. The last appointment was pretty close to my radiation treatment and the eye doctor and I conclude that it was a temporary thing and we can move on. I drive Person M_FL to his fitness center and then watch FP2 for MotoGP and Moto2. WIth rain in the forecast, this could be an interesting weekend of racing in Japan. Later Person M_Fl goes out with his friends and I just relax.
I get out Saturday for a good 90 km ride on the road bicycle. After an extended early part of the ride where I don't feel great, I get into a good rhythm and crank along nicely - dragging other riders along. After a shower I watch qualifying for Moto3/2/GP and see Person M_Fl off to a funeral. Since I rode long today, I just watch some college football games and baseball playoff games. Later Person M_Fl texts me and I drive his luggage to the Marriot where he has a room and he'll visit his friends on Sunday before going back north on Monday. (And he's not allowed to stay with me after a funeral because it supposedly brings bad karma to stay with a friend/family after a funeral. This is the first that I've heard of this but he's adamant about it.) We had a good visit and talked about our health, his work, his family, and lots of other things. When I return home I watch some college football, tidy up the house a bit, and watch most of the Dodgers' game before going to bed early for reading and sleep.
Sunday morning is very productive. I get out for a recovery ride on the mountain bicycle going north on the Los Angeles river in order to avoid the Long Beach marathon roads/street/trail closures. Except that it turns out to be a push ride rather than a recovery ride and I'm glad to get to relax. I trim the roses, grab a shower, medityate, ride the bicycle to the grocery store for a few supplies, chop vegetables to make a thick vegetable soup for the week, do some laundry so that my guest bedroom and bathrom are ready for the next visitor, and do some tidying around the house. Near noon I watch the MotoGP Tissot sprint race and then waste the rest of the day on football and baseball games.
Monday morning is also very productive. I'm out the door a bit after 6am for an 80 minute run/walk. Today, despite cycling hard on Saturday and Sunday, I feel good with no tiredness in the legs. At home I clean two door thresholds which are very dusty and dirty. (A third threshold from the kitchen to the garage and backyard is not dusty and dirty.) After a shower I meditate, prepare a few charts describing an idea I want to propose at tonight's pre-Cerebral Beach Hackathon Zoom meeting, fill out my ballot to drop in a ballot box, read the news and markets, attach myself to some sort of gasoline price-fixing lawsuit, and then relax with the Moto3 race from Japan. Later in the day I watch some baseball playoff games and some of the football game. At 6pm I have a Zoom call for the upcoming hackathon and its a waste of time - no real chance at forming teammates and no details about the event and no Discord links that work.
