Pre Spring

I'm out of bed at 5:35am on Tuesday and have to wait for sunlight before going out cycling near 7am. It's just a mountain bicycle ride along the ocean in Long Beach this morning. At home I weedwack the rosebeds that I didn't get to last Friday, clean a kitchen window and surrounding frame which tends to get dirty very quickly, and then grab a shower. I read the news and markets and then pack up to go run errands. The errands are just the main public library in Long Beach and some grocery shopping. At home I watch the MotoGP race from Qatar and its an exciting and very close race. The season is going to be incredibly close this year. Later I continue to do little tidying efforts around the house and watch some of the election returns and some Netflix. Today I'm in bed a bit early because I want to finish one book left over from a previous checkout and start in on one of the four new books that I checked out today.

Wednesday is a day off from cycling and running since I've worked the legs the last six days. Later in the morning I get in a good session with the weights and then attend via Zoom the monthly Long Beach Human Trafficking Task FOrce Meeting. AFterwards I mow and edge the lawn and then watch the Moto3 race from Qatar. The afternoon sees me updating some websites and then I watch almost the entire Los Angeles Kings' ice hockey game since it is in another time zone and doesn't extend to my reading and sleep time.

I start Thursday again waiting for enough sunlight to go cycling. I'm out the door at 7:12am for a good mountain bicycle ride. I wanted to ride the road bicycle long today, but the forecast for nasty, gusty wind sours me to that idea. As I'm finishing today's ride the wind is getting pretty strong, so I'm glad I went short. At home I've pulled the stovetop grills out into the backyard and spray and scrub them and then let them dry in the sun. After a shower I read the news and markets and start in on the Moto2 race from Qatar with a lunch of vegetable soup and garlic bread. After lunch the stovetop grills look beautiful and the stove looks brand new when I put them back on. Later I clean the entire inside of the refrigerator and it looks brand new also. Later in the afternoon I just relax and consider what ride or run to do in the morning depending upon the wind conditions.

I'm out the door for a run/walk at 6:12 am. As I get into the run the left hamstring feels tight. I just keep going and it doesn't get any worse but doesn't get any better. I'm able to get in ninety minutes today. At home I weedwack the area between the house and the junipers in the front yard and the rosebeds in the backyard. Not wanting to finish, I decide to pull out the chainsaw and trim a small tree down to a size where I can trim it in the future without a ladder. With a new extension cord (from a year ago) and a new chainsaw blade, the job goes quickly. Except that as I'm cutting up the branches to fit into the trash bin, I (again) slice through the power cord. THis is the third time I've done this: once about 25 years ago, once last year, and now this time with the new extenson cord. I put the branches into the bin, grab a shower, and read the news and markets. AFter a while I out into the garage and strip the extension cord cable, cut it to size, re-connect the wires, add some solder, cover with heat shrink tubing, and wrap it up in electrical tape. We'll see how long this repair lasts compared with $35 for a new extension cable. In the afternoon I've lost momentum and can only watch some golf and Netflix and later the Kings' ice hockey game from the east coast. Except I've dropped the Netflix Firestick remote again and now it doesn't work.

I start Saturday with a mission and I'm out the door on the road bicycle a little before 7 am when the light is safe. I push on the way up to the WHittier Narrows dam and beyond to the EL Monte dam. I stop for a gel and then turn around and crank like a madman all of the way home. The mile markers are just flying by! In the last four kilometers I finally feel it but keep pushing and end up with a very hard and fast eighty kilometers. At home I grab a warming shower and put on warm clothes and read the news. The legs are gone. During lunch I watch some of the golf and an ice hockey game. Later I clean the kitchen and bathroom floors with a mop and then handwipe the bathroom floors to make sure I get every nook and cranny. Thrown into this set of activities, I find a number of "standard trial optimization problems" and I program them in and test my recent simplified genetic algorithm. The genetic algorithm passes with flying colors. Late in the afternoon I watch the Kings' ice hockey game and have burritos for dinner and chocolate chip cookies and milk for dessert.

My entire organism is hungover from yesterday's ride. Nonetheless I go for a recovery mountain bicycle ride and feel pretty good after I get going - managing to push along the ocean tral against a bit of a headwind. After a shower I do some grocery shopping and layout the basics of the cat blaster board and enclosure, do the laundry, and work on the genetic algorithm with constraints. Most of the afternoon is spent relaxing with golf and ice hockey. I've dropped the AMazon Firestick one too many times and now it will not work at all. Thus to watch Netflix I use my laptop hooked up to my television via and HDMI cable - just like I watch my streaming F1 and streaming MotoGP/2/3 subscriptions. And later in the day I do the laundry and read before sleep.

I sleep well on Sunday night and stay in bed an extra ten minutes on Monday morning. I don't know if I will run/walk or just walk today, but ater I've warmed up everything feels good so it's an eighty minute run/walk. After a warming shower I have a Red Bull and a blueberry muffin and work on the gentic algorithm. I've written it generically so that all's I have to do is add a fitness function and dormulate constraints and the genetic algorithm will find the minimum value. Near 2 pm I finally have lunch and watch some Netflix - hoping to lift weights for the first time in four days later today.

I start Tuesday with tired legs and staying asleep for an extra forty minutes. I jump out of bed, get dressed, and get out the door for a good mountain bicycle ride where I push at times and just spin at times. At home I get a nice warming shower and start errands. Today I visit the ATM to depositi a large California income tax refund, draw some money out, get to Staples for more printer paper, visit the Home Depot for Cat Blaster supplies, and then stop at the grocery store to top up on supplies. At home I trim the front yard and bring new roses into the house and sweep the driveway. I'm just out of control today and I cannot sit still - I work on the Cat Blaster, do a minor trim on some bushes, watch the news, grab lunch, and do more tidyig up around the house. Later in the afternoon I do more tidying up and sweeping and then finally decide to sit back and watch the Kings' ice hockey game and relax. I've worked the legs on the bicycle ride this morning and I can have tomorrow off from a leg workot but I better lift weights extra strong for the upper body as well as getting down on my hands and knees and cleaning the rosebeds.

After four bicycle rides and two runs, Wednesday is a day off from serious leg work. I wake up early and have a Red Bull and blueberry muffin and watch some youtube videos on soldering. I used to be pretty decent at soldering, but lately I've been terrible. When I watch the videos I realize that my soldering iron is really dirty and not tinned properly, so I spend time cleaning it up and now I can solder (decently) again. I thus form a ground bar for the Cat Blaster before working on the computer. I'll make a power bar for the Cat Blaster later today and hook it back up and make sure it works at this intermediate stage. At late morning I get out and lift weights and it goes well. After watching some of the Kings' ice hckey game I go back and re-clean and re-tin the soldering iron for future use.

I stay in bed an extra twenty minutes as I wait for the sunlight tocome up to ride safely. I get in an extended loop ride where I'm battling wind most of the way. Nonetheless I'm still cranking like a madman and I fly past mile markers. I end up at 65 kilometers. I change some clothes and get down on my hands and knees to clean the roses of grasses and weeds as I'm being serious this year. After a shower I read the news and markets and then easily solder together the power bar for the Cat Blaster - it's amazing how cleaning up the soldering iron has made me into a more-than-decent solderer. I finaly stop for lunch and pasta with vegetables near 1pm and I observe the market close. I'm taking the day off from coding to let some of the concepts sink in. And later I have a slow day with tired legs from the bicycle ride and the crwaling around and up-and-down from cleaning the roses.

On Friday I get out for an eighty minute run/walk to start the day. Backat home I weedwack the roses and then gab ashower to run errands. I get to the gasoline station, CVS, and Trader Joe's before going home to watch FP2 for F1 from Asutralia and then FP2 sessions for MotoGP/2 from Portugal. Later I work on the Cat Blaster and have most of the components installed and just need to finish some wiring. Later in the day I start feeling more and more blah and can just lay on the couch and channel surf.

On Saturday morning I'm just plain worn and out and IU hear the rain coming down, so I turn off the alarm and sleep until almost 8am. I get up and pop some Aleve and have a blueberry muffin and by mid-morning I'm able t have a decent workout with the weights, I spend the rest of the day watching qualifying for F1 in Australia and qualifying for MotoGP/2/3 from Portugal as well as finishing up the Cat Blaster electronics and running through some tests. It just needs to be hooked up to the water pump and installed in the baby carriage and it will be ready. Th baby carriage was salvaged a few years ago when my neighbors down the street lft it out with a "FREE" sign on it and I recognized its value for a robotoics or cat blaster project - so I grabbed it and stuck it in the garage.

I start Sunday with a bicycle ride in very windy conditions. This gives me the chance to puch with a head wind to get an extra good workout and to push with a tailwind to try and increase my leg speed. At home I trim the roses and bring blooms into the house, grab a shower, and watch the F1 race from Australia. Later I watch the MotoGP Tissot sprint race from Porutgal with a surprise winner. Sunday bicycle ride in windy conditions, trim roses, shower, F1, Tissot sprint.

Monday morning is extra chilly but I get out for an hour run/walk. I cut it a bit short because I've felt the left hamstring and left calf threatening to be problemmatic and I'm still worn out. After a nice warm shower I work on a kinematics/dynamics problem, the Cat Blaster, I wach the MotoGP race from Portugal where the rookie, Pedro Acosta, get a podium in his third race. Later I work on the Cat Blaster some more and work to organize the garage so there is more efficient storage and more open walkspace between the car and shelves and etc. Later I watch the Kings' lead the Conference-leading Vancouver Canucks 3-1 before I go to to sleep and read.
