No School and Things Get Rolling

I start Tuesday with a run at Liberty Park. Today I feel stronger than last Friday and run/walk for 65 minutes. AT home I get in a quick shower and get a haircut, refill a prescription, get an early quadrivalent flu shot when the pharmacist asks me if I want one, eat at Del Taco, and pull some things out of their hiding places in the garage for some upcoming work. I start converting a web scraper and processor that was done many years ago in Perl to Python. It takes a number of hours to do but by the end of the day both the scraping of the data from websites and the processing of the data is done. I take time off near dinnertime, though I don't eat dinner, to watch a fun Moto2 race from Spain.

I cannot answer the alarm and get in an extra hour of sleep on Wednesday. Why is this becoming more of a regular occurence lately. I start the day reading the news and markets and then get out to trim the roses and water the roses. I continue by lifting weights and then edging, mowing, and trimming the lawn. Now I'm tired so I take a cooling shower and watch an unpredictable MotoGP race from Spain. Later I relax and think about some more web scraping and data processing but I don't quite get to it. And to close the day out I watch a bit of the Dodgers' game and then bring some tools into the house to go around and clean all of the window blinds in the next few days.

I start Thursday with a road bicycle ride on the San Gabriel river trail. Today is the first ride in a long time where I feel strong throughout and I'm even up a gear for a najority of the ride. At home after a shower I get gasoline for the car and lawnmower, mail letters, and stop in at the grocery store. I'm starting to get some taste back so I buy blueberry muffins and a pizza. After typical activities I eat half of the pizza and it's starting to state good and I don't even use the pain gel in my mouth and I have no pain. So I'm making progress. And later I watch a bit of the Dodgers' game and then the Detroit Lionss opening up the NFL season.

On Friday I start the day with a strong mountain bicycle ride. Back at home I trim the roses, bring blooms into the house, and water some carnations. After a shower I call the bicycle store and the guy can't evaluate my drivetrain until Monday, so I'll try again. I resurrect the Markov models that I worked on a bit ago and I have a better understandng of the process and I think I'm making progress. During the early afternoon I watch informative FP2 sessions for both MotoGP and Moto2 from Misano, italy, intermittently go around the house and clean window blinds watch some of the HBO series "Silicon Valley", and then check out the Dodgers' game. By he end of the day the blinds are probably half done and I hope to finish them on Saturday and Sunday. I don't have a lot of energy yet so there's no use killing myself trying to get them all done in one day.

I start Saturday driving to te Liberty Park rubberized track for a run and run/walk. AFter a walking warming up I repeate run/walk periods of time for 70 minutes. This is pretty servere for right now in my recovery, so I'll try to stick with this workout for a month or so. At home I grab a cooling shower, meditate, and read some news. Then I load up the car with electronics and chemical waste from me and some neighbors and drive to the recycling center. Today there are only ten cars in line ahead of me and the recycling effort goes very quickly. On the way home I stop at Home Depot for various home and bicycle maintenance lubricants and supplied and pick up some grocery supplies at the grocery store. The qualifying sessions for Moto3/2/GP are very exciting and there should be fun races from Italy on Sunday. I take some time to clean the blinds of a couple of windows but I'm not feeling it in today's hear so I'll have to finish the last ew window blinds on Sunday. And I watch an incredible US Open tennis match between two women which demonstrates some incredible shot making. And though I've ramed in my mind the Markob chain transition matrices, I don't really do any coding. The formation of the transition matrices will require a bit more scraping of the latest player results, so I'll get to this soon. But I have it mapped out and just need to implement, code, and debug it. Instead just vegging out with a pizza and the Dodgers' game.

There is rain and drizzle on SUnday morning so I don't start cycling right away and hope the rain will clear. It doesn't. Thus I spend anumber of hours on hte Markov chain analysis and lift weights for the abdominals and lower back. Throughout the dya I watch a mix of baseball and football and finish dusting the widnow blinds.

I get in a decent mountain bicycle ride on Monday morning where I feel strong to start and the energy level tapers off as I approach the finish. I trim the roses and bring many blooms inside the house and read the news and markets. The Markov chain work is making progress as I've found the way to logically comoute the state transition matrix probabilities - though I have an error in the code and though the probabilities are correct, the state transitions are not. I watch an exciting MotoGP race from Italy where I'm cheering for the retired wildcard rider from KTM and everythime the announcers suggest that his incredible fourth place position could become a podium position, the tears well up in my eyes. Unfortunately he only finishes fourth but he's the highest plaed KTM rider and greeted as a hero at the end of the race. I start the IndyCar race from Laguna Seca but get bored and later watch some of the Dodgers' game.

On Tueday my legs are tired and sore, so I sleep an extra half hour and just go walk for an hour. After a shower I read the news and markets and find my error in the Markov chain transitions and now its time to move to the next capability. A home healthcare nurse comes by again and finally says she'll send a registered nurse over to sign me off on anymore visits. ThoughI had pushed hard for this six weeks ago. I get on the mountain bicycle and do some grocery shopping and then ride to the bicycle store to buy a new cassette, chain, and chainrings. The shop owner, not know as the smartest light bulb in the box, finds the casssette amd chain but can't find the integrated chain ring. So after a while I just say to order the cassette and chain and I'll try to find the chain raings and we'll make an appointment to put eveyrthing together. At home the Moto3 race from Italy is incredibly exciting and I'm yelling and jumping up and down as it looks like my favorite Moto3 radier, a Turkish rider for Red Bull KTM, is going to win. But two corners from the end he gets "bullied off line" and finishes third. But still gains many points in the world championship race. Later I finish the IndyCar race and the Dodgers' game and relax since I'm extra tired today.

IU start Wednesday with a road bicycle loop ride along the San Gabriel river trail. As I get down near the ocean I see my cycling acquaintance Tony and I yell at him a number of times but he keeps riding. Finally I catch up to him and yell his name again and I see that he doesn't recognize me. Finally I say "It's Ray" and I see a shocked look on his fae and then a smile. I had not seen Tony since before my bicycle accident and I apprise him on the accident and cancer/radiation. He finally admits he didn't recognize some thin rider calling out his name. But we have a nice social ride and his past year has certainly been better than mine has been. At home I trim roses and bring a ton of blooms into the house, watch a fun Moto2 race from Italy, attend the Zoom Long Beach Human Trafficking Task Force Meeting, clean the hardwood floors, and watch a bit of the Dodgers' game. Road bike ride on San Gabriel river trail, Tony doesn't recognize me, trim roses nd bring blooms in the house, Moto2 from Italy, LBHTTF meeting, water roses, clean hardwood floors, Dodgers' game.

I feel strong on Thursday and ride to the old yacht club and back to home. I pull out the corded hedge trimmers and trim a lot of tree branches down so that they are not in my eyes and way when I mow the lawn. I make a decision to trim way back the corner bush in the next few days but that requires the chainsaw and a ladder. After a shower I ride the bicycle to the grocery store, read the news and markets, make a task list for a friend's upcoming visit, and just relax with the series Silicon Valley since both the bicycle ride and tree trimming has worn me out. ANd later I atch the NFL football game.

I'm out at Liberty Park before 6:15am to run/walk on the rubberized track. I continue for more than 65 minutes and then drive on home. At home I pull out the ladder and chain saw and trim back a tree in the corner of my property. I've trimmed it way back so that it will be easier to maintain in the future. And though I don't have enough room in the trash receptacle for all of the branches, I do chop them down to size and can probably run a lawn mower over them next week to dispose of them. Finally, rnning out of steam, I trim the roses and bring new blooms into the house. After a shower I watch the FP2 session for F1 in Singapore. This FP2 session des not seem to produce the "on form" results that we can expect for Saturday and Sunday, but who knows. When I take a trip to the grocery store I run into a Cambodian lady and we start talking and exchange phone numbers. Later in the day, after I've encouraged her to watch it, I re-watch City of Ghosts which predominantly takes place in Cambodia. And towards the end when they show the old abandoned resort and casion (before they messsed it up by refurbishing it in 2019), I have tears welling up in my eyes as I remember how scared to death I was from the ghosts when I went there but also how happy I was that I went. The rest of the day is spent relaxing but also tidying up the house for next week's visitor.

I'm hung over from Friday's run and have a lazy Saturday. I don't ride or run, clean the kitchen floor, deweed the roses, demulch some of the the downed tree branches, and work on a charging shelf for the garage. During these activities I have an idea on how to solve a problem with my Markov chain algorithm and I spend a fair amount of time on Saturday working on that. Later in the day I don't feel so bad about missing a workout today because its the first missed day this month.

On Sunday, despite light drizzle, I take the road bicycle ride north on the Los Angeles river trail and keep going to the El Monte Airport. I turn for home and crank along quite nicely for a good 65 km ride. At home I work on a charging shelf for the garage and I clean the road bicycle after the drizzly conditions. After a shower I watch an interesting F1 race from Singapore. The beginning of the race is run to a specific race pace as the leaders try to bunch the field up and disallow convenient spaces for pit stops to occur. After a yellow falg and safety car comes out a bit earlier tah anyone wanted, the race comes alive with some drivers puching like crazy and other just trying to nurse their tires home. (Nurse their tires, hot breaks, and hot engines home in the extreme heat of Singapore, that is.) I'm tired from the good, cranking bicycle ride and don't get much done except to clean the kitchen floor for the second time in three days. Whay? I don't know.

On Sunday I stay in bed an extra twenty minutes to let the legs rest and then ride down to the old yacht club. Today the legs feels strong once warmed up and I crank along quite nicely and feel good about myself. I work on the charging shelf and take a cooling shower to read the news and markets. Later in the day I mow the lawn and finish mulching up the down tree branches. I usually run the lawn mower over the down tree branches but today it gives me some trouble as the branches arew a bit think. So I have to keep tightening lawn mower blade. I hope I didn't do any permanent damage to the lawnmower.
