Pre Radiation

I start Saturday with the longest ride after surgery yet - down to the pier and back to home. It's only ninety five minutes but it gives me a good workout in my current recovery state. AT home I pull out the trimmers and trim two bushes that were originally on Monday's list. But I just want to clean the bushes up. Now I'm tired and I have a nice shower and can relax a bit with qualifying for MotoGP/2/3 from Germany and some of the US Open golf tournament.

I start Sunday with the second bicycle day in a row - a mountain bicycle ride to the end of the ocean trail and back to home. I'm getting stronger everyday. Today as I climb a short forty meter climb to get to the river trail I see a fairly large coyote stairing at me and then I notice that it's sight follows me as I finish the short climb and start south on the river trail. I wonder if it will follow me or not but I don't look back - it's looking for smaller targets. Back at home I trim the roses, take pictures of the Yamaha YZF-R1 to put it on sale, and get in a comforting shower. I take time to watch the MotoGP sprint race from Germany and the US Open in golf. It's a slow day and I choose to watch the recorded IndyCar race rather than the F1 race from Montreal - saving the fun and excitement of F1 for Monday.

Monday and Tuesday are slow days. I certainly gt out walking on Monday and cycling on Tuesday and do my physical therapy exercises. I also put the Yamah YZF-R1 up for sale and take care of other appointments. For fun I watch the Moto3 and Moto2 races from Germany as well as the F1 race from Canada. On Tuesday both the home healthcare nurse and physical therapist come by and we agree that I am finished with home healthcare visits since I'm completely independent and making good progress every single day. In between activities I spend a lot of time on Tuesday working on a website to implement a "captcha" to prevent spamming responses and also making the website more modular.

I get out the door at 6:05 am on Wednesday for a seventy minute walk. AT home I trim the roses and edge the lawn - deciding to let it grow longer for the summer months but trying to keep it neat and tidy. After a shower I make a trip to the grocery store and get home to finally watch the MotoGP race from Germany. It's an exciting race with some good battles going on. The rest of the day is slow as I gather things for tomorrow's doctor appointment. And actually get down for a 35 minute nap in the middle of the day - I don't know where this came from.

Thursday is a good day as it starts with a mountain bicycle ride to the old yacht club and back to home. Coming hme along the ocean trail there is a nasty headwind that gives me an extra good workout. At home I grab a shower and some food before going to visit my primary care physician. I tell my doctor that I'm recovering well but need radiation and I ask for a blood test because my hemoglobin and hematocrit were ridiculously low following the surgery and we should check it out before the radiation treatments. I also tell my doctor, Doctor So of Cambodia, that I have a Dr So and a Dr Ho (American born Chinese oncologist). I need to find a Dr Ko (Korean doctor). My doctor laughs and says I also need to find a Dr Vo (Vietnamese) as he says that I need a complete set. On the way home I get new books from the library and buy some food to satisfy cravings and then do my physical therapy exercises. I also note that I do NOT get to the "clean bathroom" task which is on today's list.

I start Friday a few minutes early for a long walk. I don't know why, but today there is an extra spring in my step. After the walk I trim te roses and weedwack the rose beds. But because I've neglected the rose baeds during my recovery, I run out of batteries on the weed wacker before I'm finished. In the shower I spend some time scrubbing the shower - I don't finish it, but its a start. I read the news and markets and list the motorcycle for sale at a number of spots. And then I watch FP2 for MotoGP and Moto2. Later as I take turns listing the motorcycle at another website and scrubbing the shower, I watch some of the golf and later in the evening I watch some of the Dodgers' game. In the evening I start getting a lot of interest in the motorcycle and I try to figure out how to protect myself, physically and scam-wise, as I want to show the motorcycle but it doesn't run so I can't just meet people with it at the nearby police station.

I have bad sleep on Friday night into Saturday morning because I'm both excited and worried about selling the Yamaha YZF-R1 that I've had for 21 years. I'm excited because I've been saying for three or four years that "I'm not putting anymore money into this bike" and yet I have. I'm worried because you never know what can go wrong when you give strangers your address to come over and look at a motorcycle. (I would usually have them meet me at a police station, but the motorcycle is not running.) After a slightly higher than usual blood pressure reading, due to bad sleep, I'm out the door for a good mountain bicycle ride to the old yacht club and back to home. Today I tire a bit sooner than from recent rides and I just blame it on the bad sleep. After a shower I go grab some groceries and have a light lunch in anticipation of the buyers onslaught. The onslaught does not come because the very first buyer, who brings his ten year old son along, knows what I have because he had a 2002 Yamaha YZF-R1 a while ago. I'm completely honest with the condition of the bike and he gives me a deposit and says he'll be back shortly with the rest of the cash. Yes - an all cash transaction. He and his son come back shortly and we fill out the paperwork and get the motorcycle into the back of his truck and off it goes - the 2002 Yamaha YZF-R1 that has seen me through 21 years of life, is gone. After watching MotoGP/2/3 qualifying from Assen, Netherlands (the Cathedral of Speed) I prepare the paperwork to be sent off to the DMV and to my insurance company. And later I relax with some of the Dodgers' game.

Sunday starts with the mountain bicycle to the old yacht club and back to home. Today, after decent sleep, I feel much better riding and can push at various times. Returning home I continue the last bit of scrubbing the shower and glass doors as I take a shower. ANd watch a fun MotoGP Sprint race from Saturday. The afternoon is taken up with golf and the Dodgers' game.

I start Monday with a long walk - up to eighty minutes today as I drop off the DMV bill of sale documents off at the post office. At home I trim the roses and then trim a few branches from the big tree in the backyard. It's just a short trim to keep these low hanging branches out of the way as I mow the lawn. After a shower I take care of changing phone numbers and watch a very wild Moto3 race from Assen where the top ten riders are dive bombing each other under braking and leaning on each other in turns. The afternoon is slow and I just relax. I've taken care of a lot of the little things and can proceed with more doctors appointments and radiation treatment.
