Memorial Day Weekend

I'm out of bed Tuesday at 5:45 am and out the door on the road bicycle at 6:10 am. There's a very nasty headwind along the ocean with flags on the pier straight out against me. Nonetheless I crank along and have a good strong ride. I cross paths with the promisechild.org guy, the riders from Portugal, and my Philippino marathoner friend Archie. Archie is the only one going in the same direction as I am so I slow down and ride alongside him for a few minutes to catch up on things. I finish strongly at 65 kilometers. After a shower I read the news and markets and watch the MotoGP race from LeMans which is close and nail-biting but without my desired results. I don't code today and just relax and do little things around the house.

Wednesday is a run/walk day and I'm out the door at 6:10 am for a 75 minute run/walk. Nothing hurts or threatens to hurt during this run. AT home I trim the roses and bring blooms into the house and get a warming shower. After the shower I use a razor blade on the glass shower doors to remove soap scum in the corners in preparation for a full door cleaning. Except that I'm out of the cleaner (which I'll pick up during Thursday's errand day). AT noon I present the website to the Long beach HUman Trafficking Task Force. This is the one that we started on three years ago and now they want to get serious about it. Afterwards I watch an exciting Moto2 race from LeMans, France and some Netflix. I finish the day intermittently watching the ice hockey playoff games.

Thursday and Friday are fairly slow days. I get out cycling on Thursday and lift weights on Friday. And visit the acupuncturist and run some errands. I'm not much into the last stretch of ocidng that has to be done but on Friday I copy over an old Perl subroutine and just start converting it to Python. I get more than halfway through it before I call it quits for now. And on Friday two new cycling jerseys come in the mail. One is for the Czech Republic national cycling team and one is for the Slovakia national cycling team in honor of two of my grandparents who were born in Czechoslovakia. These jerseys seem a bit cheaper than the last twop I ordered years ago (and are wearing thin). But I'll give them a ride next week.

I'm out the door at 6:12 am on Saturday for a road bicycle ride north on the Los Angeles river. I feel strong over the first dam and get to my designated turn-around point. I crank along until an onshore breeze starts giving me a headwind and from there I just hang on. A group of five riders pass me seven miles from my turn-off point and I follow them and accept their draft until they leave the trail and I finally arrive at my turn-off point. Nonetheless, It is a decent eighty kilometer ride and I'm happy with the ride. AFter a shower I watch an unpredictable F1 qualifying session from Spain and then I relax with some PGA championship golf, some of the ice hockey playoffs, and other activities. I'll get to the final part of the Python web conversion on Sunday or Monday.

I sleep a bit late on Sunday and am saddling up for a mountain bicycle ride at 6:27 am on Sunday. I crank along nicely and even run into the German rider, Horst, that I ran into on Thursday. So I slow down and ride with him for a kilometer or two until our paths diverge. North on the Los Angeles river trail I push along nicely against a headwind and finish with a good ride. AT home I trim the roses and get in a warming shower before topping up with supplies at the grocery store. There's a very unpredictable Spanish F1 race - one pit stop, two stops, or three - as various strategies play out. Later I just tidy a few things up and relax with some of the ice hockey playoff games.

On Monday I don't get out of bed until 6:20 am and then start working on the website to convert the backend from Perl to Python. Until the client decides what else needs to go onto the website, this is the last thing that I can work on. It takes a bit of time, but I get it finished and we're ready to move on. I'm not feeling like lifting weights today, so I go for a long 65 minute walk near noon to get the blood pumping. After a shower I grab lunch and re-watch the last half of the F1 race to try and understand how the various strategies played out on the final results. And then I just kick around a few ideas and code snippets before intermittently watching the ice hockey playoff games.

Thursday starts with a good 6 5kilometer bicycle ride. I run into the Portugal riders and slow down and ride with them for a few kilometers until we get to the bridge where they take a break. And I continue on. At home I get cleaned up and work on a proxy rotator so that I can do "unlimited" scraping with a Python script. (A lot of websites limit the hits that a website can take from a given IP address, so I wanted to get around that restriction.) For the rest of the day I just relax and watch the ice hockey playoff games.

I start Wednesday with a good 75 minute run/walk. Nothing hurts and I feel good throughout. Back at home I edge, trim, and mow the front yard and sweep up the debirs. And I also trim the roses before getting in a nice warm soapy shower. I read the news and markets while doing the laundry. Later in the afternoon I wash the insides of the windows in preparation for the semi-annual window cleaning. (Though I didn't clean the windows back in December since we had a fair amount of unpredictable rainy days and wouldn't make sense towash the windows if they were going to get rained on soon.) And later I watch some of the ice hockey playoff games and some Netflix.

Thursday is very gray to start with as I get on the mountain bicycle and have a good ride to the old yacht club and back to home. I wanted to immediately start washing windows after the bicycle ride, but the lack of sunshine means that the windows would take forever to dry. So I grab a shower and read the news and markets with a nice cinnamon muffin. By late morning the sun has been out for a bit so I pull out the ladder and cleaning supplies and garden hose and go around the house and clean the outside of all of the windows. I thought that I might stop at the two thirds point, but I keep going. It's a lot of up and down the ladder and washing and windexing and moving the ladder, so it's a good workout also. Before 1pm I'm having my second shower of the day and have lunch. I'm tired now so I spend a lot of time on the couch with Netflix, the news, and ice hockey playoff games. But at least my Memorial day weekend chores for the house are finished.

I start Friday slowly by reading the news and markets. The deep sleep with a ton of REM sleep for dreaming (with some very vivid and weird dreams) makes the day start slowly. Shortly after various stores open at 8am I am inside running errands and replenishing cleaning supplies and groceries. When I get home I get in a good session with the weights. Afterwards I climb up a ladder (again) and some minor tree trimming of the biggest tree in my backyard. After a shower I stay inside the glass-enclosed shower and srub down the glass enclosure. And then I watch FP2 for F1 from Monaco and FP2 for both MotoGP and Moto2 from Mugello, Italy. The afternoon is a bit slow and that suits me to recover from the recent days' activities.

I wimp out on Saturday and just ride 65 kilometers on the road bicycle. I'm not feeling like more. After a shower I watch the qualifying for F1 from Monaco and the qualifying for MotoGP/2/3 from Mugello, Italy.

I start Sunday with just the traditional Sunday recovery ride on the mountain bicycle down to the old yacht club and back to home. After a shower I watch an unpredictable F1 race from Monaco and then a recorded Indy 500 race.

On Monday morning, Memorial Day, I walk to the grocery store for supplies and trim a front bush. After reading the news, I start out for a bicycle ride very late (for me). There are a lot of riders and runners along the various trails and now I realize why I like to ride early - I get to miss the clueless skaters, runners, and cyclists who don't obey any sort of courtesy suggestions. Now granted this is Memorial day, but still all of the people out are clueless regarding courtesy. But I get in a good ride to end the month of May's riding. After a shower I watch a very close MotoGP race from Mugello, Italy where most of my favorite riders do poorly but it's a good race anyway. Since it is Memorial Day, its a slow day and I catch up on some Netflix and just relax with the 7th game of an ice hockey playoff series.

I start Tuesday slowly since I'm a bit hungover from god bicycle rides on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. I'm out of bed at 5:40am to read the news and check out market futures. I take some time to work on the rotating proxy Python script to have unlimited scraping capabilities, but something is slightly amiss. At mid morning I go have a decent session with the weights and a cooling shower. From there I get to CSV, the ATM, Home Depot, the post office, Togos for later lunch, and the library. I continue to play this game where I plan my errand route ahead of time to minimize the travels required to complete the errands. At home I watch the close Moto2 race from Mugello, Italy where my favorite rider, a rookie up from Moto3, finally gets his first Moto2 win. Later I let the rotating proxy ideas simmer in my brain as I watch the opening game of the ice hockey conference finals.
