Approaching Christmas

I start Tuesday waiting just a bit for the morning to warm up before getting on the bicycle. I look at the temperatures and realize that last night wasn't as cold as it has been lately, so I jump on the road bicycle and get in an okay 60 kilometer ride. There's some wind during the ride that knocks me around, but its still a decent ride. After getting cleaned up I get to the library for two more new books and then to the grocery store to top off supplies. Back at home I check out the markets and the news. When the postal mail comes I see that I have three different checks from a law firm for a class action lawsuit brought against the city of Long Beach related to telephone taxes back in 2003 through 2008. One has a different middle initial, but I sign the check and I'll deposit all three when I take the time to go to an ATM. I'm a bit worn out and sore from yesteday's heavy lifting and today's windy bicycle ride, so it's a slow day of tending to the garden, watching some television and Netflix, and staying away from the PCA analysis that I recently started and got stuck on.

Wednesday and Thursday are contrasting days. I start Wednesday working on an effort for a California assembly campaign, don't get in any formal workout, spend more than 90 minutes trimming a front bush and hard-pruning the roses for the winter, and then lose momentum. On Thursday I start with a good mountain bicycle ride to the old yacht club, read the news and markets, waste 90 minutes with a Long Beach Human Trafficking Task Force meeting (which was supposed to be about cyber-methods of obtaining victims for exploitation but wasn't), watch some recorded programs and Netflix, and then lose momentum.

I'm a bit lazy on Friday morning and do not get walking. I get up and work on some algorithms and then I work the abdominals, lower back, and core muscles late in the morning. I finish up aand get cleaned up just in time for Zoom meetings for CSULA. I have two sets of meetings today totaling five hours, so I'm mentally tired by the time that they finish and can only lay on the couch and watch television.

I start Saturday with a cold but good road bicycle ride of 60 kilometers. After getting cleaned up I make a trip to the grocery store for supplies, prepare food for the coming week, and watch qualifying for the last F1 race of the year from Abu Dhabi. This is the race that I was at two years ago and I'm depressed that I couldn't in-person witness either F1 or MotoGP/2/3 this year. The rest of the day goes by quickly with just Netflix and televison viewing.

Sunday sees a chilly mountain bicycle ride down to the old yacht club and back home. It's just a recovery ride though the wind makes it less so. After I get cleaned up I work on some demographics for a Calfironia assembly district and then watch te F1 race from Abu Dhabi. This race, unfortunately, isn't that exciting and doesn't really have any good battles in it. I struggle though some football games but...it's just football. And later I watch some Netflix.

I start Monday with a chilly 75 minute walk. After getting cleaned up I get to the ATM, Target, and the grocery store. Back at home I review a Child Protective Services (CPS) document for a friend and then tidy up the bathrooms and kitechn - the entire house is a bit dusty from the fires and ash that we had. I'll get to all of floors on Tuesday or Wednesday. And later, in between calls about the CPS document, I watch a Kanopy movie, read, and go to sleep.

I'm lazy on Tuesday and cannot answer the bell to go cycling. I'm out of bed near 6:30 am, but my mind is not ready to go. Instead I check the news and the markets and when the morning has warmed up a bit, I finish the hard-pruing of he roses that I started last week. There's some cleanup to do, but I can get that later. After a shower I run an errand or two and then come back home and start cleaning the hardwood floors. Everything is dusty from nasty fires and ash in the area, so it takes longer than usual - taking a break in the middle of the floors to have phone conversations with people and then finish up later. In the afternoon I watch an interesting punk rock film called "We Are The Best" and then become a vegetable for the rest of the day.

On Wednesday I cannot answer the alarm either - I'm just tired and have the third day of a slight fever. Except for cleaning all of the floors in the house, finishing up the hard-pruning of the roses, and mowing the lawn, I don't really accomplish much physically. This is only the second three day period where I have not been on a bicycle this year - the first one back in March when I fell running and couldn't get a helmet on my head.

On Thursday and Friday I get back on track. The fever is gone by Friday and I get in two good mountain bicycles rides and I feel strong throughout. On both days I spend time with the trauma/trafficking alogirthms and I almost finish the writeup so that people can review it.

Saturday and Sunday are back to bad days. On Satursday I barely do much of anything except feed and water the roses, get to the library for more bookes to read, drink heavily, and watch football. At least on Sunday I get out for a cold, early morning ride to the old yacht club and back home before watching football and not drinking. I've decided I've been drinking oo much lately since I'm bored. So time for a break from alcohol. I remember deciding to take a break from alcohol in 2002 or 2003 and it lasted eight years. I've sent a draft version of the last clustering algorithm results that categorizes levels of child abuse to two friends to check out before I publsh it. So I'm temporarily out of algorithm work - hence the most recent episode of boredom.

I start Monday lazily as I work on the demographics for the California state assembly. It takes most of the day, working on and off, but the basic data is parsed and distributed. Now I just have to decde which maps and demographics to run statistics on and display. A bit after 10 am I go walking in the warming sun as we reach 82F today in Long Beach - the first day of winter. I clean up the rosebeds and then myself and have a quiet day. Ealry in the evening I get outside to view the "Christmas star" - the passing of Jupiter and Saturn close together (interms of line of sight) so that they look like one planet instead of two. This event will not happen again until 2080.
