Into August

I'm lazy on Tuesday and get to the ATM, the post office, and the grocery store. At mid morning I get in a good workout with the weights and then clean up the remainder of the tree branches that would not fit in the trash bin last week. There's a slightly spread out Moto2 race that I watch and my favorite rider gets second place to consolidate his lead in the world championship.

I'm lazy again on Wednesday and don't go cycling. I get out for a thirty minute walk where I'm trying a different pair of shoes to avoid some blisters along the insides of both heels. But these don't feel good either, so I'll try again another time. I work away on cleaning up old paperwork (some of the receipts for things were so faded that I couldn't read them or were from Circuit City which doesn't exist anymore). After noon I have a good workout with the weights. The afternoon drifts away with Netflix and relaxing.

I start Thursday with a very good road bicycle ride where my legs need a few miles to get going and then my entire organism feels great and strong. I consider adding kilometers to the 60 kilometer ride, but decide to save the energy for the next few days. Back at home I put on the new cycling shoes and ride the road bicycle up and down the street to make sure that my cleat installation was done in the right position. After a shower I make an appointment to pick up three new library books and then the day disappears. Eventually I get out to feed and water the roses and carnations for the upcoming summer weather.

I have a productive start to Friday. I get out riding on the mountain bicycle and new cycling shoes and have a good ride even if my legs are a bit tired from yesterday's ride. Back at home I mow the lawn and trim the roses. Weed whacking is delayed since both batteries are discharged after sitting for a while. After a quick shower I get to the library to get three new books (though two of the previous three are not finished yet), buy a gallon of paint to paint the guest bedroom, and do some grocery shopping for supplies. After unloading I watch FP1 and FP2 for the MotoGP weekend in Spain - a first since I've never watched both FP1 and FP2 before.

I sleep very late on Saturday and get out for a walk in the morning. I am so lazy today - I'm not sure if I'm mentally tired of Covid-19 or coming down with a little something or just lazy.

I start Sunday with a good road bicycle ride of 60 kilometers. The new shoes feel good and its a decent ride. When I get home I trim the roses and then get cleaned up to run some errands. Back at home I watch a very hot MotoGP race from Spain (called Andulucia) where a number of riders are hurt from last week and just want to finish, a number of riders vie for their first podium, and there is action throughout the long, brutally hot race. Later in the day I fix some cracks in the walls of the guest bedroom for painting and water the roses and carnations.

Monday starts with a recovery mountain bicycle ride to the end of the ocean path and back. I watch a fun Moto3 race and then start programming the graph convolutional network that I read about over the last few days.

Tuesday is a good day - and the start of what I hope will be a large number of good days. I start with a one hour walk, trimming the roses, and a shower to cool off. As I'm trimming the roses, two squirrels are watching me from the large tree in the backyard. So I go into the house and get some nuts (bought a while ago specifically for the squirrels) and slowly make my way back to the large tree. From ten feet away I get the squirrels attention and toss nuts to wear they can find them. I'm hoping to lure them into trusting me. After replenishing the energy stores, I start in with a brush to paint in the corners and around the trim of the guest bedroom (since a roller will not get into these areas). I'm sweating from the effort since its a lot of moving around and climbing up and down the chair and also crawling along the floor to get near the baseboards. I get a quick rinse-off shower to cool down and watch a decent Moto2 race even if there weren't a lot of battles throughout the field. I do more programming of the graph convolutional network and have the basic framework in place.

I start Wednesday with a good 65 kilometer road bicycle ride. I finish up strong and cool down with a shower. There's some grocery shopping and then I take the road bicycle into the garage and clean it up and degrease the gears, the chain, and chainrings. It should be set for a couple months now. Near 11 am I look at the graph convolutional network but I have no blood sugar and cannot think, so I make lunch and bake five pounds of potatoes for future use.

I get out the door early on Thursday for a mountain bicycle recovery ride to the end of the ocean bike trail and back home. Only towards the end of the ride do I start to tire. I trim the roses and cool off with a shower. I handle some phone calls and check the news ad the markes for a while, and then I start painting the guest bedroom before the day gets hot. As I'm finishing up the painting I think I see shadows in the paint and I may have to give it a second coat. But by the time I've cleaned the roller and painting supplies for re-use and checked back in on the drying paint, everything has evened out and it looks fantastic! Now I'm happy that I don't have to give it a second coat. I roll the mountain bicycle into the garage and clean it up and degreas the gears, chain, and chainrings for future use. Another rinse-off shower helps me cool down and I relax for the rest of the day. Except that I need a paint sample for the library paint job, so I go find a piece to use for a trip to Home Depot tomorrow to color match the paint for that room.

I have a good productive day on Friday. I start with an hour walk and then get cleaned up. After checking the news and the markets, I run errands including getting new color-matched paint for the library, picking up lunch, and stopping in at a small Thai grocery store to pick up supplies to make spicy yellow curry. Back at home I increase the weights and have a good session for the upper body and grab my second shower of the day. During the remaining part of the day I finish up the guets bedroom, move furniture around in the library to make painting easier, repair some cracks, update finances for the end of the month, and watch some television.

I start Saturday going north on the Los Angeles river trail towards the Whittier Narrows dam. This is a preplanned 48 mile ride in advance of next weekend's birthday ride. Except that as I get to the turn around point, I decide to keep going and use this as my birthday ride even though it is about a week early. So I get up to the Santa Fe dam and stop for a nutrition gel and then head back south. I pick up a rider near the WHittier Narrows dam and I drag him all of the way past Del Amo to Carson where he thanks me for the pull and gets off the trail. I take a brief stop since I'm getting tired now, but then continue to the bridge, turn around, and ride home. It's 63 miles for my upcoming 63rd birthday. At home I'm wiped out and watch a relativley boring F1 qualifying session from Great Britain. Later in the day I follow a recipe and cook the Thia with all sorts of great vegetables thrown in. My first time cooking it and its delicious and very spicy! For the rest of the day I alternate between watching television and reading since I'm worn out.

I should sleep well on Saturday night into Sunday morning but its just average. I get out on the mountain bicycle for a recovery ride to the end of the ocean trail and back home. The legs don't feel bad after yesterdays long ride but the entire organism in unenthused. I quickly trim the roses and cool down with a shower and get to the grocery store for supplies. Back at home I watch the British Grand Prix which is very boring until the last two laps when three tire failures jumble the order. The rest of the day is slow as I let the organism relax and look forward to a more productive Monday.

I take Monday completely off from working out the legs - no cycling and no walking/running. Near 10 am I start painting the library by going around all of the corners and edges with a bruch (where the roller won't quite reach). Approaching 1 pm I take a shower to cool down and grab lunch. I spend a couple of hours watching Netflix and then I get in a good session with the weights. No shoulder pain but I ice the right shoulder afterwards anyway. I get another shower to rinse-off and cool down and start the laundry. The evening is spent with reading and Netflix and updating some financial information.
