People at work and enthused about the new month and the new contract that we have finally obtained to build a weather monitoring satellite. We've been on hold for a year or so waiting for this contract. After work I meet up with Person S_SM at Starbucks and we hang out for an hour until he has to go to work. It's a nice visit and we are able to catch up on things and just get to know each other better. I walk Person S_SM to his workplace and then continue home to get in a good workout for the core muscle group.
Thursday and Friday are reasonable days at work but I look forward to the weekend and the long Sunday bicycle ride. On Thursday I add sets to the lifts and end up a bit sore on Friday morning. But its a good soreness. After the workout I pick up Person Ti_Ca and we do laundry and then I force Person Ti_Ca to watch a recorded video about human trafficking. He watches the better half of it but then has to quit watching because he can't take real reality shows. After work on Friday I get in another core muscle group workout, mow the lawn, and trim the roses. Just as I'm finishing up trimming the roses Person Ti_Ca comes over and we relax for a bit. Today is a First Friday and we go walk along Atlantic to listen to musicians, observe artists, and just mingle with the crowd. Person T_U and Person D_V eventually join us for a short time. But we've been wandering around for almost two hours so we head for home.
Saturday is an intentionally slow day as I rest for Sunday's long Los Angeles river ride. Person Ti_Ca and I hang out at home for a long time until we drive to a mall to walk around and eat and play some video games. Eventually I drop Person Ti_Ca off at home and return to relax and gather things for the ride.
Sunday starts before 5:30 am as I get on the road bicycle and make the trip to Griffith Park. I'm feeling energetic (once I get the blood pumping) and I see that they have re-done the pavement on one section of the Los Angeles river bicycle trail near Girffith Park that used to be a real pain. I arrive at the start of the ride with just enough time to have a muffin and some vitamin water. I start back towards Long Beach with the main pack and only talk with a few riders this time. It seems that the pack is strung out and I don't gt as much of a chance to converse as usual. Only the last 8 miles or so are a struggle as I battle the wind to the turn-around point (for everyone else since I started the ride in Long Beach). And then I just crawl on home. After a shower and some more fluids I feel pretty good and watch the MotoGP and Moto2 races before falling asleep for about an hour. The rest of Sunday afternoon and evening is spent relaxing and gathering things for the Monday morning work trip to San Diego.
I'm supposed to work on Monday in San Diego so I jump on the Yamaha YZF-R1 and rush down to San Diego at speeds greater than 85 mph (for the most part). This bike is not made for long trips so I'm pretty beat up when I get there and I enjoy getting off the motorbike to fill up the gasoline tank. At greater than 85 mph I get 50 mpg. We have a productie day at work until the last test shows strange results. So we talk about a course of action and I grab enough data to process and look at during the evening. Thus I jump back on the motorbike and rush on home. When I get home I do a quick workout for abdominals and the core muscles and then I get to work looking at test data.
Tuesday is a weird day. All of my meetings get cancelled at the last minute and I just make progress on post-processing the data from Monday's test. I receive quite a few phone calls at work and each conversation starts with "I'm surprised that you're in your office". I don't know when these people call, but I'm regularly in my office. After one meeting that does not get cancelled I leave work early, do some grocery shopping, and lift weights. Coming off of Sunday's long bicycle ride, the beating onthe motorbike of Monday, and another night of missing sleep, I perform a best effort session with the weights with lighter weights and higher repetitions. And it is still a struggle. After the workout I trim the roses and post-process some more data from Monday's test. I'm already looking forward to the three day weekend because I am tired.
Wednesday and Thursday are sorta productive at work. I process some test data and than I sit in meetings. After work on Wednesday I go for a long walk to relieve stress. After a productive and long Thursday at work I have a great workout with the weights that really knocks me on my behind. After a cool shower and the laundry I head for bed early. The phone is on silent mode and when I wake up on Friday morning I've missed calls from Person Ti_Ca and Person J_VKPI.
By 9:15 on Friday morning I've gone out for the extended aquarium bicycle ride and mowed the lawn. The bicycle ride was great because, being a Friday morning, there are very few cyclists, skaters, or runners to get in the way and have to avoid. I relax a bit and check British MotoGP qualifying before continuing Friday activities. I pick Person Ti_Ca up and we go to the library to get books to read. Later in the afternoon we ride the motorbike up to Koreatown to hang out with Person J_VKPI and his friend, Person I_P. We have a nice but short visit because Person J_VKPI is late again. After riding the motorbike home Person Ti_Ca pick up the car and go have dinner and go back to the game shop from last week (since we have discount coupons). I wander the place and manage to get the final score of the ice hockey playoff game and then re-join Person Ti_Ca. He's trying to spin a giant "price is right" type of wheel and asks me to give it a big spin for him. I give it a big spin and, beginner's luck, I hit the 1000 ticket jackpot on the first try. Naturally everyone around us is excited and coming up to us and telling us what we can redeem the tickets for and etc. It takes a long time for the 1000 tickets to be spit out so many people see the game display stuck on 1000 tickets and make positive comments towards us. Everyone is excited! Except me. I'm not into playing these games but as long as Person Ti_Ca is excited, then I am (sort of) also. He's so excited he's taking pictures of the game display and taking video of the tickets being spit out and the reactions of those around us. Eventually we head for home and I drop off for deep sleep - it has been a long day.
Saturday starts with drizzle. I check out the qualifying (via the Internet) for the British MotoGP and am disappointed with the results. At mid morning I get out cycling around the aquarium and then come home to watch the Canadian Grand Prix qualifying. Person Ti_Ca and I have lunch during the qualifying and then have a slow afternoon. Late in the afternoon I drop Person Ti_Ca off at a friend's house for a party and then I go relax.
Sunday starts with a chilly and drizzly extended aquarium bicycle ride. I can still feel a bit of itredness on my legs from last Sunday's long ride but its a great ride nonetheless. After a shower I settle in for a wet Canadian Grand Prix where my favorite driver leads until he makes a small mistake on the last lap and settles for second place. Then the British MotoGP and Moto2 races are run in the rain and there is some entertaining action there. And then I relax for Monday morning's first day of jury duty.
On Monday I ride the motorbike to Compton, California to have another go at jury duty. We sit around most of the morning and I finally get caleld to go to a courtroom as a potential juror near 10:30 am. There is another day and we are told we will enter the courtroom at 11:30 for juror selection. Finally we are told to go to lunch and come back at 1:30 pm for potential juror selection. Near 1:30 pm we are called into the courtroom and told this will be a 10 day trial. It is a case of child abuse that happened about 10 years ago. With no DNA or physical evidence. It will be a tough case to get a conviction. I answer the juror selection cases truthfully and just as it appears that I will be a juror for a ten day trial, after the prosection rests with me on the jury, the defense attorney excuses me. And later I am dismissed from jury duty service for another year. At least I got a lot of reading done. I ride the motorbike home and get in a good workout with the weights before watching game 6 of the ice hockey playoffs and relaxing.
