Serious September, Part II

On Monday and Tuesday I keep the Serious September momentum going with runs in the morning and weight sessions in the afternoon. But on Wednesday and Thursday I skip the morning runs as I get indications from my body that I need a bit of a break. I get in very good weight lifting sessions after work, but being rundown and not being able to sleep on Wednesday night puts a damper on the morning runs. And tells me to get some extra sleep in preparation for the weekend.

I top off Thursday by writing out a very large check - the largest check that I've ever written in my life. And later drive down to Huntington Beach to hang out with Person W_V for a short period of time. We're both rushed, so it's just a short visit.

Thursday also marks the arrival of the third international postcard that I've received in a short time period. I've recently received postcards from international visitors or friends from Thailand, Peru, and Singapore. The one from Singapore is the nicest because it has a nice photo with weird colors, lightings, and lines of some tall buildings.

Friday I get up and start back in to the morning runs - getting in a 4 miler before work. And have a good session with the weights on Friday afternoon, mow the lawn, and do the laundry. The remainder of the evening is spent relaxing.

On Saturday I get out for a morning run before jumping on the motorcycle and riding out to Fontana for the Indy car qualifying and Infiniti Pro race where Taylor is entered. (I used to do the data acquisition on Taylor's Formula Mazda.) It is hot and dry in Fontana, but it is great to see some of the faces that I hadn't seen for more than two years. Taylor has a reasonable race in his second race and gets valuable seat time and experience at racing in three and four car packs.

When I get home I rehydrate prior to picking up Person J_VKPI for an evening of clubbing. The music is good and I smile at lots of people because I'm having fun. One guy comes up to me as he's headed for the door, pulls out some paper and a pencil, and says, "I know that we've both been staring at each other tonight. So please tell me your name and write down your phone number." I'm a bit confused because I have not been staring at this guy. In fact, except for the flashing LED circuit party light on his shirt, I don't recognize his face at all.

All's I can do is smile at him and say, "Well, I already have someone". There are a few other words exchanged back and forth - all friendly - but this solves my problem and he heads for the door sans my phone number. Person JJ_F and I have a nice discussion because he has just bought a motorcycle and he's surprised to know that I ride. So Person JJ_F gets my phone number. (I thought that he already had it anyway.) And we agree to go for a slow ride. I drop Person J_VKPI off and I'm layin down for sleep at 3:15 am on Sunday morning.

I get up and read the newspaper and perform some small tasks before getting out to ride the bicycle. Person F_F and I play phone tag, but Person C_CT actually gets through. And before you know it I'm driving over to Manhattan Beach to meat up with Person C_CT. We walk along the beach and have lunch and look at expensive houses and finally decide to go to Long Beach so that Person C_CT can meet Nopey and stuff. Person C_CT and I do the stuff and I go play an ice hockey game. We end up tied at 1 - it was a good, close, and clean game.

Without a nap today, I'm laying my head down for sleep near midnight. The alarm goes off and is reset a number of times on Monday morning. When I finally do get up I feel refreshed even if it means that I will be a bit late for the Monday morning customer teleconference.
