Birthday Weekend

On Monday I'm relaxing after a good session with the weights and a medium length walk. Person N_C calls and says that he is in the area. I later meet Person N_C at a Starbucks - but of course we do not stay there because Starbucks refuses to sign a Guatemalan labor reform agreement - so we head for a nearby, independent coffeehouse. Later Person N_C comes over to meet Nopey. (Note that since the Tour du France ended Nopey has reverted back to Nopey.) Person N_C leaves on Tuesday morning at 7am as I fly out the door and ride aggressively to work on the motorcycle in order to make a 7:30 am meeting.

Tuesday is unproductive due to lack of sleep. But as unproductive as Tuesday was, Wednesday is super-productive as we make great progress on sine and random vibration testing. As I'm entering the bathroom in my home building after the productive day there's a ChiChi leaving the bathroom. I have a huge smile on my face from the productive day and he sees that and...well...it's just plain infectious. And so the ChiChi blasts a huge smile back at me and turns his head to keep looking at me as I walk past him. I make a note to myself to introduce myself to the ChiChi the next time that I see him. On the motorcycle ride home, because it's a bit later than usual, there is less traffic and I'm able to wind the bike up to more than 110 mph around my favorite curve - going beyond where the head shake starts and continues to be unnerving.

After another productive day at work on Thursday I go play the last regular season ice hockey game before the playoffs start. We spot our opponents two goals in the first period, come roaring back with four consecutive goals, and hang on for a 4-3 win. In the middle of the second period I block a shot from an opponent and the puck gets me on the shin bone where there is no padding. I hobble off the ice but play the rest of the game. When my equipment comes off after the game I see huge amounts of swelling and so I spend the next hour at home icing it down.

On Friday the swelling is down somewhat but there is now discoloration. And it is painfull to walk on. But that is one of the hazards of ice hockey.

On Saturday I get out for the standard birthday bicycle ride - ride one mile for each year old that I am. Afterwards I go to work to monitor some testing. But it's a short day at work so I'm back at home by 2pm. I relax and try to beat the heat on this very hot day.

I get in a short nap before taking a long walk. I pick up Person J_VKPi just before 10 pm to head for a club in West Hollywood. Person N_C joins us. I run into a former ice hockey teammate, Doug, at the club. He has three visiting ChiChis in tow and pretty soon two of the ChiChis want me and make the overtures. And I play along for a bit but stop things before theyget out of control. Today the music is not as good as usual, but we still have fun. I'm laying down for sleep after 3am on Sunday morning.

I'm up just after 7am on Sunday morning for a bicycle ride - just the Aquarium ride today. It is good that I get the ride in early because it is a hot day. When Person M_C and I miscommunicate about our meeting, we conduct the business over the phone and now I know what he wants his website to look like. I call Person N_C and pretty soon he is headed for my house. We plan on doing indoor activities to stay out of the sun and stay cool.
