The Year is Half Finished!

On Tuesday I have a resourcescout presentation to Los Angeles county social workers and social worker supervisors. They like our process for matching foster children with potential adoptive parents and we start negotiations over how to work together. But both LA county and resourcescout know that we have a conflict of interest issue and the negotiations stall out.

After a reasonable 5 mile run Person K_K comes to visit. We have more cool conversations about life, work, Sweeties, and stuff. Person K_K gives me the sincere smile and says, "I think about you a lot and I like you". Person K_K leaves near 2am.

On Wednesday night we have an ice hockey game. It is a close game that we eventually lose, 3-2. With about 5 minutes left in the game one of our players finally shows up. Because he is so late he is not allowed to play. As we are removing our equipment after the game in the locker room it becomes obvious that the late-arriving player is drunk. "I was at a wedding" he slurs. "I paid $50 to take a taxi with my equipment to get to the game and now my car is back in Hermosa Beach. Who wants to give me a ride back there?" After some negotiations and the realization that he shouldn't drive even when he does get back to his car, one of the players gives him a ride. Can people's behaviour, including my own, get any more illogical?

On Thursday night I get out for another 5 mile run to relieve stress and have fun. Later Person K_K comes over and we continue to have good discussions about what is going on in our lives. Person K_K leaves near 1:30 am on Friday morning and I collapse back into bed for sleep.

Friday is a quiet and productive day at Northrop Grumman and at home. I lift weights, mow the lawn, and perform some small errands around the house. I'm asleep by 11 pm and miss telephone calls.

On Saturday I watch the qualifying for the European Grand Prix, get out for the Aquarium ride, get a haircut, do some shopping, go for a long walk, and relax. I have phone calls with Person K_K, Person T_V (who I hadn't heard from in a long time despite me text messaging his phone a few weeks ago), and Person J_VKPI. Person M_C tries to catch me but we keep missing each other.

I pick up Person J_VKPI just before 10 pm and we head for a club in West Hollywood. The crowd is down a bit but you still have to push and shove your way (in a friendly manner) to get around the club. Person W, Person W_C, and Person E_K are present and we have brief conversations. Fortunately Person M_P is not present. Someone who shall remain letter-less to protect their dignity comes up to me, grabs hold of me around the shoulders to stabilize himself, and says, "Let's go do it". Paraphrased I respond with comments about my being currently spoken for. This spurs a slightly different type of conversation but order is restored when the person goes off to dance. The music is good, the lights are good, the crowd is friendly, and it is a good evening out. I'm lying down for bed at 3 am on Sunday morning.

I'm up at 7 am to watch the European Grand Prix and to make my way to Northrop Grumman to work on short term deadlines. I get out for a mid-day bicycle ride around the Aquarium and watch the Dutch Grand Prix for motorcycles in atrociously wet conditions. The accidents that occur are minor ones as the speeds are slower.

Person K_K comes over afterwards and we go for a long walk along the ocean. As we sit in a coffeehouse afterwards drinking 7-Up and iced tea, Person K_K gets a phone call and has to leave. A friend of his has just had an automobile accident. (Details not available at press time.) Thus Person K_K is leaving at 8 pm and I get the rest of the evening to relax and catch up on some reading.

On Monday morning I celebrate 6 months of sobriety.
