A Break From Life (Part Two)

On Monday night there is a very good ice hockey game: Good hard skating, some bumping and pushing and shoving, a few penalties, and a close game. We lose the game 2-1. In an attempt to score goals I play an out-of-character game where I try to rush the puck from defense and create scoring opportunities. Obviously it didn't work very well, but I had a lot of fun and had a great workout.

On Wednesday I leave work early because I do not feel well mentally or emotionally. After getting more gasoline for the lawn mower I mow the lawn again. But the lawnmower springs a gasoline leak and so I'm taking the mower apart to put epoxy on the small hole in the gas tank. I'm covered in gasoline and hoping that someone nearby has a match.

I cook vegetables and pasta for the next few days. During the operation I bump into a glass, knock it over, and it breaks. And it had to be one of the new ones that I recently bought - it couldn't be one of the old ones. I see the broken glass in the sink (At least it fell and broke in the sink where all of the glass shards are contained for easy cleanup.) and wonder how some of the larger pieces would do at slicing into skin right near the wrist.

Person J_VKPI calls and tries to cheer me up, but he doesn't. Some Kava Kava root extract is taken in order to promote deep sleep and end this day.

Wednesday and Thursday are quiet nights. A friend calls, who shall remain nameless and letterless, and tells me that because we didn't go clubbing together last weekend he went to a party and kissed a girl and had sex with her. When I asked him if he used a condom, all's he can do is say, "I hope she isn't pregnant."

On Friday night I have another ice hockey game. After giving up the first goal of the game, the team doesn't panic. I get the team back on track with a nice second assist on our first goal. And we later get another goal to win the game, 2-1. In the last 20 seconds of the game, with the other team's best (or second best) player skating towards our goalie looking for a pass, I step in his way and drill him to the ice. I'm called for a penalty with 4 seconds to play which the team kills for the win. I get home and relax for a while. I miss phone calls from Person T*, Person ED_F, and Person J_VKPI. When it is time to go to bed I have trouble getting out of the chair because both groin muscles hurt. But I make it to bed.

I get up at a reasonable hour on Saturday and have a bit of trouble getting out of bed because of the groin soreness. But I go lift weights, do the laundry, and head for the 11am meeting at Northrop Grumman. Except that the meeting is cancelled. I get phone calls from Person SB and Person M_HDA and soon afterwards I am headed for a Barnes & Noble to meet up with Person M_HDA.

Later when I return home I go out for a run. The lungs are willing but the legs are not. But I still squeeze in just short of 7 miles. Person T* comes over and we watch two episodes of "I Dream of Genie" during an "I Dream of Genie" marathon. (Um...no comment.) When Person T* leaves I head for bed.

I'm up Sunday and out the door for a good aquarium ride on the moutnain bicycle. After recovering I head out for an hour of rollerblading under winter-like conditions. Thus there are not many other skaters, cyclists, or runners out today. After recovering again I mow the lawn and trim/clean-up the roses. Calls from Person T* and Person ED_F are missed. I'm in bed and asleep by 10pm.
