My Weekend

On Friday I leave work a bit early and do the laundry and get in a good session with the weights. Actually it is a great session with every muscle screaming in pain and a huge pump in each muscle. I go walking afterwards with and without Nopesterini as he prepares for the first stage of the Giro on Saturday. I hem and haw back and forth later in the evening as to whether to go to a club or not. I finally decide to go to bed early and get some extra sleep.

I get up on Saturday and crank out almost 30 miles on the road bike as the almost final tuneup for next Sundays 120 km Los Angeles river ride. I also finally take another to show the progress of the garden.

Person T* and I drive up to downtown Los Angeles and visit both the Museum of Modern Art as well as the Geffen Contemporary. Usually when I visit these, like for the Warhol exhibit, I'll get inspired. Today I do not. Neither Person T* nor I enjoy and/or understand many (any) of the works. The Lucian Freud exhibit makes me want to leave as soon as possible because every face has a depressed and beaten look on it. We later walk through Little Tokyo, look at Japanese magazines, watch the jpop teenagers walk by, and eat mochi ice cream. I note that the magazines are a bit behind as they still have Dajiro Kato listed as a potential world champion and they have not caught up to his Japanese Grand Prix tragedy.

Later in the evening I pick up Person J_VKPI and we head for a club in West Hollywood. I've had a headache all day, so tonight I tell Person J_VKPI that we'll probably leave a shade early because I'm out of it. Person W and Person L_C are busy trying to get a friend, who's celebrating his birthday, in trouble with a few dollar bills and the gogo dancers. I ask Person W, "Are you using my EOS Aqua spacecraft for your weather measurements yet? I built that satellite just for you." He starts laughing and says that he is not using it yet. "Well, that's the last time that I spend (literally) a billion dollars on you."

Person J_VKPI is also a bit out of it today as he contemplates what to do about his boyfriend. We talk about it some during the evening. I run into acquaintances and buy some of them bottled water. I also try to avoid offers that are about to be made by disarming with a huge smile and a huge "No" shake of the head from a distance. This manages to keep most people away from me tonight. But not all. Person W_C manages to avoid me most of the night because his friend, Person E_C, isn't present and didn't use my phone number from last week.

It's 1:15am and time to go (because of the continuing headache). But it is not to be. I get tied up in a discussion with Person E_F...oops...E_F was just used, so let's try Person ED_F. Person ED_F and I have a good conversation and Person J_VKPI leaves us alone. I later find Person J_VKPI who has lost his watch (that was given to him by his mother). After talking to the bartender and finding a number to call on Sunday morning, we leave the club. It is almost 2am.

When Person J_VKPI sits down in the truck he discovers his watch. "I guess I didn't take it into the club with me." When we arrive at his apartment, Person J_VKPI wants to talk more about his relationships and things. So now, it is approaching 3am on Sunday morning when I finally leave K-Town. My head hits the pillow near 3:30am on Sunday. I'm glad I made it home early tonight.

I'm up on Sunday before 8am to walk Nopesterini and myself, get supplies at the grocery store, and watch the motorcycle race from Spain. This is the first race back in Europe and without the Dajiro Kato death shock hanging over it. Valentino Rossi, my second favorite rider (after Dajiro Kato himself), gets a lousy start and is in 8th place after the first lap. But this weekend he means absolute business (perhaps still stinging from critics who said that he allowed Kato's teammate to win the last race). And Rossi moves from 8th to 2nd on lap number 2! He's into the lead on lap number 4 and spends the rest of the race just walking away from the field and performing some wild powerslides at 130 mph during the last couple of laps. I drool with envy!

I get out for almost an hour of rollerblading before taking a shower and picking Person ED_F up at the train station. We go to a coffeehouse to talk before we come back to my house for Person ED_F to meet Nopesterini. Person ED_F is a bit nervous of dogs, so we find other things to do. I finally drive Person ED_F back to his apartment and arrive back home at 8:30pm. Is this day done yet?
