Vacation Preps

Tuesday and Wednesday are blah and boring days at work. Though on Wednesday I wear a Los Angeles Kings jersey (with my name on the back because I played on a Kings team once before) and I get a lot of thumbs up and smiles as I walk around campus. After work on Tuesday I'm a vegetable enjoying a day of solitude. On Wednesday I leave work early and lubricate the motorcycle chain, get in a good high repetition workout, clean the and trim the roses, sweep the hardwood floors, and make some hotel reservations for the upcoming trip. After the productive period of time after work I watch the Kings playoff game. And see them lose in a close game, 2-1.

Thursday and Friday are blah days at work though I do work on some of the things that have been bugging us for a while and get solutions. On Thursday after work I go walking, stop off at he grocery store for supplies, clean the kitchen floor, and just relax. On Friday I leave work a bit early and have a good high repetition workout with the weights, mow and edge the lawn, and grab a shower before the Kings' playoff game. At times I cannot watch the game because it seems like everytime that I turn the game on, the opposition scores. But as the game ends regulation and goes through the two overtimes I have the game on and I'm sure the police are on their way to my house for how loud I was cheering as the Kings won the game in 2 overtimes and clinch the Stanly Cup. (The Stanley Cup that I actually touched in 1993 when it was on a tour of Los Angeles. I pushed and shoved and muscled my way near the front of the crowd and just touched it with a fingertip as they were getting ready to take it away.)

I start Friday with a good strong ride to the end of the ocean trail and some extra miles at the end. The legs felt good after 5 days off of cycling. After a shower I run errands at the bank and the grocery store and then jump on the motorcycle for downtown Los Angeles. I get to a swap meet and buy a number of t-shirts and hats that say Los Angeles or Claifornia on them to give to my friends on the upcoming trip. The lady at the t-shirt shop os very cute and I strike up a conversation with her. When I ask her where she is from we're both laughing because I thought that she was Thai and she says she gets that all of the time. It turns out she is Vietnamese. As I'm getting on the motorcycle to leave I run into a co-worker. What a small city Los Angeles, home to 15 million people, is. I meet his wife and two young sons as they show a brother around Los Angeles. And we joke around about the coincidence. And then I rush on home to relax.

I start Sunday by riding up north to the Whittier Narrows dam and I meet up with Derrick. Derrick is just going to ride short today, so we stop at the bridge (his turnaround point) and have a little conversation. Today I am not with it so I just go at my pace and ignore other riders who I would normally pull along or get dragged along by. I'm tired by the time that I get home though I do't know why. After an errand or two I watch a very close and exciting MotoGP race, have a 40 minute Skype conversation with a friend in Myanmar, and a bit later watch a good Moto3 race.

Monday is a blah day at work. I'm thinking of my upcoming trip. I only appear to be productive because I'm invited to meetings that I am somewhat involved in but I attend and appear to be attentive. After work I get in another high repetition workout with the weights and make phone calls related to the upcoming trip and airline seats and meals, credit cards, and ATM cards (for use in strange countries). I watch a close Moto2 race, but, again, I don't have a horse in this race, so to speak.

Tuesday and Wednesday are blah days also though I tidy up loose ends on Wednesday as everyone knows that I am leaving. After work on Tuesday I just do errands around the house and get things prepared for the trip. On Wednesday I have another high repetition workout and mow the lawn and continue with many things that have to get done before the trip. I lay everything out that I want to take with me and now I have to try and fit it into the luggage that I have.
