My First Day Of Jury Duty

I woke up this morning in my own bed, nothing over my head, and nobody sleeping on my couch. But there is a police chalk outline of a body on my living room carpet. I ignore it.

The elevators are empty, so I decide to start singing and see if there is an echo in it. I start out with the famous Herman's Hermits hit "I'm Henry The Eighth" and finish with The Cramps "Goo Goo Muck". There is no echo.

The television is turned on. It is "The Price Is Right". I mentally tune it out and read a report entitled "ACTEX On-Orbit System Identification: Introduction and Status" as well as an updated version. After being disappointed with the results (and nobody should take this personally as I become disappointed easily) I switch over to reading a Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation paper entitled "Individual versus social survival strategies". Now this makes sense. As I get into the report, the hour changes and the television has been changed to - you guessed it - the Jerry Springer show. Jerry has a tame show of people who cheat on their boyfriends (or girlfriends) with their boyfriends' (or girlfriends') relatives.

I nod and agree that it could be a mistake. "I will check with my employer and see whether it is 10 days or 6 gazillion. I will let you know tomorrow."

I ponder how my "date" on Saturday night was a perfect match! I cannot believe it. And yet I know that....
